Say you have $70 grand...

...which car would you buy....

this is truly hypothetical and I have not won the lottery....I am just trying to see different options for the day I win the lottery

Things this car should be able to do:
0-60 in say 3.5 seconds-ish
1/4 mile in 11 seconds
Also it should be able to carve the canyon...
...and it should be properly beautiful

Well it should have good power to weight ratio and most importantly it should be able to put the power down very well...it could be a new car or an old car....it could be modded or fast from the factory....

Couple options which I have been thinking....but which one of them is the best drivers car?

"Fast from Factory" Category:
Used ZR1 or a lightly used Z06
2013 Mustang Shelby GT500
2013 Chevy Camaro ZL1
Used Dodge Viper
Used Nissan GTR + AMS Alpha 6 or Switzer P600 (cutting close to 75K are we?)
Used Maserati Gransturismo (Exotic Factor)
Ariel Atom?

Now we go to the "mod me" category
Used Lotus Elise/Exige
Used Honda S2000
New BRZ/FRZ
Used EVO IX or X or the Subi?
Used M3 ? CTSV ?
Used 350/370z?
Used Acura NSX?

Apart from the NSX/M3/CTSV, I think all the cars in the "mod me category are roughly around 25K...so add another 25K (at the most) in Engine/Exterior/Suspension and other mods and you have yourself a very quick car....

So which one is the best drivers car?

Please add in any cars if am missing

CTS-V

Comes in stick. Very mod friendly. Sounds beastly. Looks great. Foor doors. I'm a sucker for suede-esque interior materials. Incredible performance, and a review or two I've read said it's a better driver's car even around a track than the Z06/ZR1.

The only other car that does the same thing for me is the Jaguar F-Type, though I'm waiting for the hardtop coupe version. The V8 F-Type is upwards of $80k though....

For $70K out the factory, you'll be hard pressed to find anything reaching 0-60 in 3.5 & a quarter mile of 11 seconds. None of the cars from the first list are going to do that; the ZR1 & GT500 are quick in the 0-60, but they're closer to 12 second cars than 11. That's supercar numbers & supercars start at 6 figures. Even the ZR1 & SRT Viper take perfectly timed launches to reach those figures.

But, I picked the Boxster S because it meets the canyon carver & looks category in a perfect 10. This car has won multiple driver's car awards for a reason. An extra $10K left over new will get this car into the 4 second 0-60 range & that's plenty fast.

The 2nd category is too diverse; anything can be built fast for $70K if we're digging through the used market, though I think an 11-second Elise would be pushing the boundaries.

if you want pure unadulterated speed/handling, the ariel atom tricked out to the max your $70k will allow. It's a mini f1 car.

Save a bit more and get an R8. Pre-owned is OK. Specs be damned... I just want an R8

I would get the Maserati Granturismo. Plenty fast and by far the best looking out of your list.

I also agree with Rick about the Boxster if you are looking for a perfect driver's car.

If I wanted a more practical fast car I would get a CTS-V. For a 2-seater I would go for a Wiper.

Lets shorten the list shall we

I did not see a single vote for 'Stang GT500 or the ZL1 or the Viper so lets take em out of the list....

and how about adding the Cayman-R to the list? I think that car is properly sexy !!!

So lets split the list as a new car and used car list:
New Cars:
CTS-V
Boxster-S
Cayman-R

Preowned Cars:
Z06
GTR
Granturismo
NSX-T (Mod Me)

It'd be a tough one. But, at $70K, I would not mind a new 5-Series. Take a nice look at the Audi A7 too...but, don't think I would have enough.

The rule was one car for $70k.

Not a car, and a SUV, and a scooter, and a skateboard, and pocketing the difference to use on gas ...

No worries... to each their own

Kind of how I would never get a GTR. Great specs and performance but doesn't really do anything for me.

I like the ZR1 as well... but I don't think $70k would score even a pre-owned yet. Maybe in a year or two

It depends on what EXACTLY you are looking for in a car.

If I had 70K, I'd take my 760 and trade it in on a new F02 760 or B7 with the Twin Turbo V12 and carve up the canyons with that.

OR

If I wanted to satisfy that childhood dream, it'd have to be an NA2 NSX in White with NSX-R additions to it.

OR

I'd buy myself a car like a used AMG such as an E63 or an S65 AMG and go to town in those!

See thats my problem with the GTR, doesnt look "exotic enough"....otherwise it would have been the #1 choice and nothing to compare it with....

Ty, the only reason why i put maserati on the list is coz of the exotic factor....that car is down right SEXY....I digg the CL as well but not sure if it will break necks LOL....

0-60 in 3.5 is supercar level.

You could fork over a little more and get the upcoming SRT Viper

or possibly wait for the new C7
