saw a SRT-8 Challenger today
i was picking up some soda today at a local grocery store. a dude pulled up with a SRT Challenger jet black, blacked out 20s. didn't have a camera on me sorry. but i waited for him to leave to hear the exhaust on it.
man that 6.1 sounds tough. with those black custom 20s(guessing) and that exhaust it's a sharp throw back current car.

Shoulda kept that and sold the STi...
Mark my words, there will be a thread started by me one day...where I post my new Challenger
.....just have to survive paying for the wedding first
I saw an orange one up here a few weeks ago, odd because ultra new cars are super rare in this area. Looked bad ass, and ironically it was spotted at a gas station. Not my cup of tea, but I can see why some would be attracted to it.

Overall it, too, will be a hot car. Just not the one in my garage.
Those are SRTs...not sure what the 500 means unless they have been specially tuned.
But only the SRTs have the hood stripes and 20" wheels stock..and the black lip spoiler.
The 09s arent even out yet, or officially priced which will have the SE, R/T, and SRT

I'm still kinda bitter that I haven't heard of a t-top option for the Camaro though... why not offer it when it was so popular on the F-Bodies?

Its going to be interesting, especially once Dodge finally comes out with a damn 6-speed manual for it.

As I said, the Camaro will probably be the top handler, wont ever try and argue that...Picking domestic...I actually prefer GM over the others. G8 GXP anyone?
But there is just something about the Challenger...it draws me to it, and has for the last 2.5 years after first seeing the concept at the LA auto show...I HAVE to have this car.
Of all the current muscle, I am still partial to the current Mustang. Unfortunately, there are no Stangs comparable to the SRT8 Challenger....which itself should stomp on the Bullitt but would get killed by a GT500.
I for one think that the American Muscle cars have some really good designs. I told my wife I would get a Mustang if I had the chance. She said that she would perfer it be a 65, but would be ok with a 2008. The Challenger and Camero are definitely good re-designs as well.
I work at a Dodge dealership here in the south suburbs of Chicago and we just saw our first 3 this past week. All being SRTs, one was the hemi orange, the other was the jet black, and the other surprised the hell out of me. It was hemi orange, but instead of it have the black stripes they were a dark/navy blue color. I looked inside only to see the number 54 stitched into the headrests. That Challenger was a special order from Brian Urlacher of Da Bears. Wish I coulda seen him there but I only work nights and one of the other porters said one of the sales managers drove it to his house that morning. They are by far more stylish and have a more retro/throwback than the Charger, but to me it seems like the charger srt has a more throatier sound to it. Wish I coulda drove it to find out. All I got to do was turn it on in the wash bay. I'll settle for a a Grand Cherokee SRT-8 tho. I was scared shitless driving that beast on a dealer trade. Any one know someone whos got the new Challenger?
SOOO HOOOT
To answer your question...With only 6000 or so (cant remember the actual number) limited SRTs being the ONLY Challenger out right now (2008 MY) I'd surprised to find anyone that has or knows someone that has one.
That said 2009 will have all 3 trim levels and more people will have access to them....such as myself

Thanks for the pics btw...if you can is there any way to take a pic of the trunk open and with the rear seats down...I'm curious how big the space is.
Did your dealer mark up the price of the car?

Sticker was $45,395. So yes there was a mark-up because the brilliant black SRT (not actually called jet black) went for $41,995 + tax, title, etc..., the day before.

So about a dual 12" sub box and a small to medium sized golf bag, tightly. I was surprised with how much rear leg room the car had. It felt like the backseat of a charger, but that's if the person up front is under 6'0".

The only thing that kills this car for me is the steering wheel and gear shift console. The gear shift is right out of my pacifica and the steering wheel is out of the charger. It would have paid to put in slightly sportier steering and shifter imo.

Thank you for the pics...I was hoping for a shot of the rear seats folded down
I'm sure you know this already, but the SRT has/optioned the upgraded 13 speaker sound system...look at your trunk shot...already has a sub
but I know some people have to have ghetto bumping.I will NEVER pay a mark up...but I gotta say that thats not terrible, seeing as a lot of dealers are trying to scam for 70/80g

Nothing about this car would make me NOT want to buy it, but I think I'm probably the Challenger's biggest fan on this site
Used ftw!
Ehh big deal, my steering wheel is the same as the one in the Chevy Lumina, and I got the same center stack too
I like how IRS cars tend to have actually usable trunk space. IMO the steering wheel and gearshift are minor things, I'd be getting a manual anyway, and I think the pistol grip shift knob works great. Easy to overlook those things when the car is just bad ass.

And this is the one car I'll get new. No used for me.
No way! Ok maybe one of those Hurst gloss black ball knobs. I had a pistol grip for a while.... let me slam the gears a lot faster, but it was awkward to downshift, i.e. 5-4 or 3-2
Used = let some other sucker take the depreciation

The question is WHEN can I buy one....fiancee said not til after the wedding...and I dont think the 09s will be available then anyway...but who knows. Gotta see the final costs on the wedding and how long after I have to wait. Sucks...but maybe not even til the '10 models

I've purchased new cars knowing they would be less expensive after the initial frenzy had subsided, or could be purchased cheaper with a few miles on the odometer, but there's still something special about purchasing a car that you know hasn't been touched my another.
