Seen it before, sometimes advertised as a free second car. It's all worked into the numbers. Nothing new.

There was an ad similar to this one broken down and translated in Car & Driver except it was a Dodge dealer with a BOGO offer. Here's how it broke down in the Dodge ad:

- Buy a new Durango at list price, forgoing all rebates which total $11,747.
- Get a used Avenger for "free"...value? $11,747

This trend was actually started by the domestic guys. They've been pushing it hard with trucks for some time now....buy one loaded at MSRP...get a second truck for free

Car companies have been doing this for years... has nothing to do with the economic collapse.

I know down here Ford, Dodge, Nissan, and Hyundai all have been running this promo once a year for at least 4 years now...

You don't really believe that you're getting it for a dollar (or that it's only worth a dollar)... do you? It's all worked into the numbers of the other car you're buying.

My daughter had one of those so-called POS accents. She was terrible on maintaining it but that thing kept going. It had almost 100,000 miles when she totaled it. (No injuries)

I saw this in January (South FLA). Buy a 2008 Ram pickup at MSRP, and you got a PT Cruiser (new 2008 stock) for free.

Really, the numbers do work out. The incentive for the dealer is to get rid of a lot of on hand stock, as opposed to wholesaling them out to other dealers.

Now if Ferrari would do this..... Buy a California and get a free Maseratti Spyder, I'm in.
