Saab 9-7X Thoughts

I wanna know what do you guys think about the 9-7X

They have a current deal, $2,500 out of pocket, 24 month lease (12k miles/year), $399 month. This plus $2,000 against my current lease.

Maintenance and Roadside assitance are included on the price, so no more oil-change ripoffs.

I need an SUV, dunno which one yet, but these numbers look good.

Anyone?

The numbers aren't bad at all and with a Saab, you definitely want to lease if you must drive one because it has horrible resale and residual values. The inflated residuals used on these leases have managed to make their lease offers very attractive.

However, seeing as how the 9-7X is essentially a Chevy Trailblazer in different clothing, have you considered the Chevy?

^^ If I add leather, sunroof, power seats, etc to the trailblazer, the price goes up, and there are no lease offers (unfortunately with american cars, leasing is always a bad option, 9-7X is the exception in this case).

Looking just on the options that come standard with the 9-7X, and the leasing deal, seems to be a good deal really. 24 months.

$2500 out of pocket total? Or is that just a cap reduction?

If so, you also have to pay tax/tags on top of that.

Unless you roll in the $2,500.

Yes, check this out:

2006 9-7X 4.2i
Automatic transmission
Starting at $399 mo./24 mo.*
$2,499 due at lease inception (includes down pmt., acq. fee & first mo. pmt.)
I already asked a couple of dealers, and the $2,000 against my current lease can be combined with this deal. GM is offering the extra 2 grand as a certificate I need to present at the dealer.

I, and saab fans alike, loathe the 9-7X. It basically appears to be an ugly trailblazer. I guess loath isn't the right word, because if you gave me one in black, I'd take it. I would, however, prefer its GMC or Chevrolet counterpart.

I don't know much about GM's plans for this model, but didn't they just announce plans to kill both the Trailblazer and Envoy?

If that's true, then the 97x is already living on borrowed time IMO (kind of like the Oldsmobile Bravada a few years ago). Did you see what happened to Bravada values once it was slashed from the lineup? Not pretty.

I wouldn't be a fan of driving a discontinued car (if that actually happens).

^^ I went for a test drive, and I concur, but the first one that said "no way" was my wife, even without getting inside. It feels heavy, I did not feel any sport suspension while driving, it is not tall enough, and the interior, there is no Saab interior there, just a Traiblazer with a Saab Logo. $39K MSRP? That's why they have them sitting on the lot.

As soon as I said I am not taking it, they offered $0 inceptions, $399 x 24 months, and addiotionally the $2,000 against my current lease. That's how desperate they are.

I ended up going to see the Cadillar SRX (as they are also GM), and I really liked how it drives, there was a special for $700 inceptions, 39 months x $349 + $2,000 against my current lease. I asked for a White with Navi, and offered 25 bucks more a month. Will see if they find one.

Wow...GM is really desperate to get some of these SUVs off the lot. From the numbers you're presenting, they're losing a bunch of money on each of these since the residuals are so ridiculously inflated.

I like the 9-3, and the wagon looks nice, but it is small. 9-3 retains the Saab heritage.

On the other hand, if Cadillac does not find the SRX I want, well, I just will wait till my lease expires in December. I want to see the new MDX; at least I know that it will have bluetooth for sure.

End of 2006 models, they just wanna clear up the inventory as new 2007s are arriving. The loss might have been calculated already in advance, as it usually happens around this time of the year.

I recently bought a new RX350 and I looked at the SRX when I was comparing. I didn't really care about the 3rd row seat so that really didn't play into my decision at all, but from my drives I definitely think that there are better options out there. I drove probably 12-15 different SUV's, and the only ones that I had to go drive again to make my final decision were the RX350, MDX and the Touareg. I thought that for how much the Caddy cost it just felt cheap, especially when compared to the new GM suv's (Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade). But then again that is just what I thought.

The 9-7X is a 'stopgap' for SAAB. GM never intended it to be around long.
Considering it's not terribly different from the TrailBlazer/Envoy/Rainier, it's way overpriced, the same way that the Lincoln Navigator is a mega-profit Ford Expedition.

Ok, we went to the try another breed, this time Volvo, taking advantage of the year-end model.

We ultimately decided to buy it;

Brand new XC90 + Premium Package (leather, sun roof, 6 CD changer, etc) + Versatillity Package (3rd row seat), MSRP $42,364.

Sign & Drive:
$0 due at signing, just paid for my tags.
$458 + tax for 24 months (23 payments remaining as the dealer covered the first one).
10,500 miles a year.

The dealer even paid $500 for a security deposit that I should get back when returning the car.

Couldn't pass the deal really. New Volvo owner.

20 cents a mile. Based on our averages, thats enough. Worst case scenario, we use the other car which is paid for

In that case, assuming a $0 down, a 60 month loan to get this car would be around $705 a month Plus the tax, tag, dealer fees, etc.

The altima covers my ass for long driving.

Thanks, you got a very good point. Safe choice. Even insurance is lower if compared with the CL.

The priorities have changed. Baby comes first

But, I am still making some numbers. There is a possibility that I can keep the CL.

The XC90 plays it real vs the 9-7X. You're safe from GM now.
