Rx-8 2005

Do you guys know about this car and the burning of alot of oil?

A friend of mine was told that these cars burn up alot of oil and they pick up alot of carbon. So he he was advised to do a Decarb and Port Service for 299.95.

All I know, is that it's treatment. So if it's a treatment, it sounds more like additives. Why so much money? Anyone?

This has been talked about several times before. The rotory design of the engine causes it to burn oil. There is NOTHING you can do to help it. Its not a design flaw, its the way it was designed.

My friend told me that there was some sort oil metering thing to mix oil with gasoline just like you mix oil with gasoline in a 2-cycle lawn mower for the RX-8.

So, it is not burning oil but you need to mix oil with gasoline for this kind of engine.

Well i know this is true information. But I guess I should of phrased it better.

Is there such thing as a service for this that cost 300.00. Called "Decarb and Port Service" and if there is, is 300.00 the right price.

They say it takes 3 hours to do. What had me doubting it was that they said it was a treatment, and to me a treatment is additives.

It sounds like they are cleaning and porting the throttle body. But I just pulled that out of my ass, so I really don't know

I see... if the car runs fine, or you don't notice any drop in milage, I will just save the money for a Nintendo DS Lite and a copy of Mario.

will say one of the few I have heard that are pro Rx-8.

Too many small issues to deal with and too little straight line performance to compensate for it

Is this oil burning thing really part of the design of the mortor? Why would they designe an engine to burn 1qt of oil every month?

Do the RX's before the 8 suffer from this as well....My friend didnt know about this before he leased an 06 RX8....they never told him the car had this...So now he's thinking of retunring the car back to the dearlship for a full refund...do you gus think he can pul this off?

Because thats what ALL rotarys do. Its an enthusiast car. A lot of people buy it because of the engine.

As far as a refund, he wont get it. He shouldve asked for the Rotary manual from the dealership that specifies how to take care of the engine. I got one and didnt even buy the car. They arent hiding anything, he just didnt ask.

Thats just like the dealership not telling me that the '02 CLS had transmission problems.
