So it must be a manual?

If not, maybe an Infiniti M35/45 (maybe off lease)?

I have other suggestions but you won't like them.

I would GREATLY prefer a manual. I LOVE Infiniti's M-series, but the fact that they don't come in manual is a deterrent. Also, if I lease, I can't mod the car.

I have other suggestions but you won't like them.
BTW, I'm also considering a Subaru for my next car (whenever that may be). I have researched the Subaru VIP Partners Program.

Look at my comment above ^^^. Actually, before my TL, I owned a B6 A4. I LOVED it...when it ran. That thing broke down on me ALL THE TIME.

Basically, I've driven AWD/FWD cars my whole life. I want to experience driving a RWD manual tranny car for my next car.

Funny, I think the opposite. The G35 sedan (Skyline here) looked too upright and "pudgy". The G37 is a bit lower, longer, has some nice fender wells, and just looks quite better than the G35.

Now the coupe is different. I like both. They have nice lines, but the 37 looks too much like a Maxima / Altima.

You're going to love it. Nothing like steering with the throttle and skating on the fine line between optimum grip and oversteer. It's hard to replicate in AWD or FWD. I've owned and driven several FWD vehicles, currently own and have driven many RWD vehicles, and also driven AWD (Evo IX, LGT, STi) of varying performance caliber. The FWD, RWD and AWD cars are all great in their own merit but there just wasn't that great feeling of the aforementioned throttle steer... not to be confused with torque steer.

For a mild daily driver, FWD is perfectly fine. But if I recall correctly you tracked your car quite a bit... you're definitely going to learn a lot and have fun with RWD.

How about an E38? They're ridiculously cheap these days, and still lookers (one of the best BMW sedans ever made, IMO). The money you save buying it could be put towards any issues that may come up.

Only issue is that the manuals are as rare, or if not rarer (word?) than TLs with a stick.

Looks like you are leaning toward the G8 GXP, which is a great car, but if you are like me and have to have nav then keep looking because its not available.....

If you don't go with the G8 GXP, I'd like to change my vote to the 07 G35S or the new G37. I drove an S yesterday and the speed in those things is outrageous.

I go a bug in my butt for an M5...hoping for one next car. hope at least 3yr so I can get the v-10.

That said, I am always looking. You can get a 2003 now for $25k-ish, but I want >15kmi...they are $25-35k more, given they are the v-10s.

If I could do the work myself I wouldn't feel too apprehensive about mid-mileage.

You'd still need outrageously expensive BMW parts (especially M parts).....

I know...

But the 2009.5's are now equipped with bluetooth, at least.

True. I like the G35 coupe (used to drive a 350z) but always thought the G35 sedan was meh.

Now I think the G37 coupe is somewhat exterior-wise and find the G37 sedan less distasteful

Same goes for the altima IMO, coupe looks like a deformed stepchild.

I thought of another one: RX-8. I know its not technically a sedan, but it has 4 doors, handles and looks good, and has one of the best manual trannies ever made....

How about a CPO 5 series, or Audi S4/S6 ? At least you get warranty with them.

If the rotary is anything like the RX-7, you'll be replacing seals every 30k miles.

But you could always throw in a LS1.

Yeah, those are tempting choices...but for ALL Bimmers, Audi's, and MB's, you need to buy 2. One for you to drive, and the other for you to drive when the first one is in the shop.

LOL. BMW repo'd my boy's M6 after ALL the electronics shut down and his brakes locked up on 4 occasions, once while he was cruising on the highway at 60 and once while he was descending an offramp. He ended up drifting across 4 lanes of traffic

You know, speaking of BMW:

My Uncle has an E39 540i six speed, and he loves that car to death. Anyway, it was due a service and they gave him an X3 with 300 miles on it. It proptly died about 300 feet from my Mom's house at an intersection, refusing to show any signs of electrical life.

I had to loan them my Chrysler mini-van rental as a way for them to get home. I do hate those gremlins.....

ROFL. So they have to tow my boy's M6 to dealership since it was completely dead and what do they gave him as a loaner but an X3 haha. He's like, f-ck this, i'm driving a 120K car, give me something better. BMW ended up acquiescing so at least he got to tool around in a 550 for those 2 weeks.

Believe it or not, this search still on. I think my only option at this point is the G37S. I'm looking to buy at the end of this year. There are two things I'm leary of regarding the Infiniti, however:

1. The lack of refinement (cheaper interior?) compared to my Acura.
2. The vibration that comes through the shift knob.

Maybe those of you who own/ have owned one of these can chime in.

Also, are there any other cars that fit my criteria that I'm missing?

The vibration that comes through the shift knob is an exaggerated issue I find. Yes it does feel less refined but honestly; it wouldn't sway me away from a car at all. And as for the interior, very few companies make interiors like Honda/Acura so it won't feel as luxurious but a different feel, the MY2010 updates on the Gs are nice in my opinion.

What was your budget again OP? I would get an 08-09 335i sedan with the sport and premium pkgs. If you're not in a hurry, I would hold onto my TL-S a year to a year and a half when the new 3er gets introduced and look for a nice 08 M3 sedan.

I would love to drive a Bimmer, especially an E92 M3, provided I can find one that doesn't have many miles or problems.

My budget is ~ $40k.

THe shifter vibration isn't so bad, its really more the engine NVH at full throttle thats a bit off-putting. I went with the 7AT on my 2010 and the engine feels about 10x smoother. I had a first-gen TSX and I'd say the G interior is more than up to par with Acura interior-wise. THe new TL interior is nice but those silver-painted plastic trim pieces look cheap. At least the G has real aluminum trim....

Obviously biased here, but if you want RWD/manual sedan don't waste your time with anything else than a Bimmer. Just get a *new* 2011 328i w/Sport pack, moonroof and Xenon for about 36K$+txs via European Delivery (with a nice 6% discount). Pick it up at the BMW Welt (Munich) and drive it in the Alps. Including a pic in front of the Neuschwanstein castle - they all do this. Went there, it is awesome.

A lifetime experience.

I've only heard bad things about the G37 6MT, haven't had a chance to drive a manual G37 though. I drive a '10 G37S sedan 7AT often and I'm a fan of the aggressive auto transmission (even though I prefer manual in most cars).

Seriously, many people who normally like manuals buy the G37 automatic. It's that good/manual's that bad.

Like I said, I would love a Bimmer, Saintor. But how does the program work? I can't afford to just "go to Germany" on a whim.
