Don't know about the rest of you, but I've been watching RCR for quite some time (about 10? or 12? years ). But only recently have I started thinking: Why? WHY?
Initially, part of the fun was the heady and hilarious mix of Mr. Regular's schtick and rhetoric--in-the-toilet humor, literary allusions, puerile jokes (SAT vocab words), fucking around with tropes of masculinity, and endless references to Pennsylvania (where I grew up). (For the uninitiated, if you say your from Philly or Pittsburgh, yer not from "Pennsylvania.") Plus his cultural commentary on 'Merica.
Another draw (at least for me) was the mystery of it all. Who was "Mr. Regular"? (From the start, he said he'd remain anonymous and off-camera for work/professional reasons.) Where exactly was he from? (Yes, PA, but where exactly?)
Slowly over the years, we learned more and more as Mr. Regular (and his side-kick and one-man show-band, "The Roman") revealed more about himself (themselves), especially after the YouTube gig morphed from a side-hustle to a full time endeavor, allowing them to leave the workaday slog.
All of this is just another way of explaining why I wanted to start this appreciation thread--sorta like a "best hits" or "memorable moments" collage.
Would love it if others wanna join in, but just as happy to go it alone here. Thoughts, comments, contributions always more than welcome.
I've followed RCR for the 4 years now - some cars don't really interest me per say, but the substance / his take on what these cars represent is hilarious and deep at the same time.
Here's one (or two, as it is) of my faves. "Moist pork."
First time I watched the F150 vid, I thought, interesting take on the transition from utility trucks to SUVs.
Then I thought: subliminal Dodge Aspen reference while discussing literary theory?!? Who the f**k is this guy? (At this point, "Mr. Regular" was still undercover and never showed his face on camera.)
"The Poconos." WHERE the f**k is this guy?
Also, check out their take on the Dodge Aspen (and 1970s Mopar malaise) included below, too. (He's got a f**king Blackberry for Christ's sake. )
Love the shout-out to "Fairfax County" ... home of the "wrapper."
(“Bear / Smokey in a plain brown wrapper” – a law officer in an unmarked police car. The term “plain white wrapper” is sometimes used, depending on the color of the vehicle.)
Richie-Rich popular girl the year behind me in high school had one of these.
Still remember when it appeared in the school parking lot. My first thought, "Daddy got her baby-girl a pretty nice lookin' ride, but what is it? Looks sorta normal, but not-normal."
I was drivin' a 1977 Firebird, but this piqued my curiosity. Peak Honda.
Folks on this site probably won't find this vid that helpful, but I did and so am posting here. Shared it with my spouse and other female friends, too.
