Diesels get better gas mileage than gasoline engine. Where are the diesel-electric hybrids?

Good question. That'd be some massive torque.

They're called submarines and have been around since World War I.

Volvo is on to something.

Maybe, but I can't see it being that much more than a gasoline hybrid.

I would buy that Volvo for a daily driver in a heartbeat! Looks good, killer MPG, it's a wagon(!), and 0-60 in about 6 seconds.

I think the main reason that Volvo won't make it here in diesel form is because the general US population still doesn't accept it. Most people think diesels are still smoky, noisy, and slow. Volvo would end up losing money.

Not to mention, it's a wagon.

I have wondered this ever since the first Prius came out. My bet is mostly due to the US and for what ever reason the public's dislike of Diesel, AND the harder time manufacturers have meeting our STUPID emissions laws with them.

That dislike of diesels goes back to the 70s when most diesel cars were relatively noisy and spewed black smoke.
