Question about a parking ticket

I recieved a parking ticket last night at 3am inside a parking lot (which enerally isn't enforced, but that's besides the point) for expired meter. This was in New York, but what I'm curious about is what course of action I should take. For some reason the officer took my plate number correctly, but he incorrectly put my tag as NY not CT, and the make as a Kia as opposed Hyundai.

Now my question is, can I get away with not having to pay the ticket, I understand it's only $25 and it goes to benefit the State, but hey if I can save $25, why not right? Do I have to send an appeal or can I get away with non-action since they have the wrong tag, technically, so they won't be sending me a bill.

call the clerk of courts, ticket office, whatever it is in ny and in ct, and check to see if you have a ticket, if they put the info wrong and its not yours and throw it out.

you should have like 90 days to pay so check it about half way through the time period so the info will be in the system

I'm pretty sure they won't dismiss the ticket due to that info being wrong. It's always worth a try though. Plead not guilty and see where that takes you.

That's to check the status of a parking ticket.

If they put it as an NY plate, how would they know to check CT? I don't think running your plate will return anything. I would worry about it.

$25 Ticket was not NY City

NYC Expired meter is $35 ($65 Below 96th in Manhattan)

Why? I was parking in a lot at 2:46am and promptly left at 3:30am.

The pay meters are never enforced at that time out of the countless occasions I have parked there.

Here is what it breaks down to, if I were parked on a busy street in an urban area and I happen to leave my car parked for an extended duration or fail to pay for parking, I'll pay the ticket, as it prevents the city from earning money (parking by the way accounts for a large portion of a cities income, nearly 25% in my town). However, it is in poor taste to enforce parking in a lot at 3:00am, which is a lot that serves purpose to house bar patrons not train commuters or employees for a nearby office building.

Additionally, the lot wasn't even at full capacity. Why are they enforcing the parking lot when the street parking isn't enforced after 9pm?

I feel silly saying this, but this may be an instance where I may have been singled out.

Confirm info recorded on the system does not match up with your car. Throw out the ticket.

Legally, it's not your car on record.

Were there any signs saying you dont need to pay after a certain time? If not, you werent singled out. You were parked illegally.

But, check the records and see if it follows. You may have gotten lucky.

If you can get away with it, go for it but you illegally parked as you admitted so I'm confused why you think you shouldn't have been ticketed. You have just been lucky all the other times so I would personally make a mental note to pay the meter next time and pay the ticket.

If you drive 90 in a 55, 5 days a week for the last two years and never see a cop, do you think you should never be pulled over? Your logic is flawed

You're not understanding the circumstance, here's why. Police precense is always there at night and within that specific lot to ensure no drunkards get into their vehicles and drive. If I were to park there several times prior and not recieve a ticket, logic would suggest that it is enforced at that hour would it not?

Thus you're argument needs to be rephrased as such, if I pass a cop going ten over every time and never recieve a ticket, one would assume that going ten over the speed limit is acceptable.

That would closely parrallel my case.

it's a bullshit ticket, but is $25 going to kill you? I'd just pay it and move on, way more important things in life to worry about.

Not to be in a dick but you still broke the law. You pass that cop at ten over everytime you still can and might get a ticket. Simple and you have no case

Not to bring up an old thread, but it turns out that I didn't have to pay the ticket and I was never notified by mail of unpaid fines, nor does it turn up online. I think I may have lucked out.

Yeah if the information is wrong, generally you won't have to pay. I was issued a parking ticket on campus and the officer wrote down the make of my car as "Honda" and nothing for the model name (debadging FTW) or VIN #. I appealed it saying I don't drive a Honda, and won.

My wife was given a ticket by the airport police, but the ticket was tossed because the minivan was described as an "SUV"; IIRC, there was no model name on the ticket, either, although the make and color were correct.
The court clerk dismissed the ticket as soon as my wife showed the car registration, even though my wife was unquestionably guilty.
