My registration expires at the end of the month, I have to renwew. I am also selling my car. If I renew the registration and sell the car in a few weeks can I get a refund for the registration?

Get a temp registration. Something like a 90 day tag would probably be best in case it takes a while to sell.

 

In Virginia, yes. I've renewed my tags, traded my car in two months later. Dealer screwed up and didn't transfer tags. I turned the old one, got some of my money back.

 

For a private sale, the plates go WITH the car, to the new owner...

If you're selling to a dealership or trading in, you get a refund on the time NOT used....

So, if you're selling to a person directly, then no... otherwise, yes!

 

Just call the local DMV. It is going to be different in every state, so none of the asshats here (including me) can tell you for sure, unless we are in NJ.
