Project Wide(er) Booty
Well, this was not a full plastic reconstruction but more like a minor revision. After modding the car, it was not worth it to me to get new rear fenders, paint them, get new wheels/tires, new ZR1 skirts/CF mudlflaps, ect. So I came up with an idea just to make it look a little wider without breaking the bank completely.
I will say I read a lot of wrong information online about replacing the rear studs and this was MUCH more difficult than anticipated. Me and a buddy ended up having to pull the hubs out completely and it was a PITA!! We learned from all the mistakes of the 1st side and the second side went much quicker. ARP extended race studs, billet hub-centric 0.5” spacers, and custom Z06 splash guards in carbon fiber (were wayyyy too expensive, but worth it).
Some pics.
Before with the non-carbon fiber Z06 splash guards I ended up returning/exchanging from CF ones:
The Goods:
Before I realized that the longer studs were NOT getting in without pulling the hub completely out (drilling a hole in the backing plate to avoid pulling the hub ONLY works to get the stock size studs out, but not longer ones in!!)
Haven’t taken many good “after” shots but here are a few. I really wanted to avoid the tires sticking past the fender, and I think this is pretty much as good as I’m going to get it.

You need to roll your rear fenders. Those splash guards look like terrible add-ons otherwise because they don't sit flush with the body.

Pics don’t do this car justice (and it’s really hard to photograph for whatever reason). It honestly came out as good as I could have hoped for and it ties in nicely without looking like an “add-on”. The rear splash guard ties in with the front CF mud flap/skirt and wheel. Gives this affect of the wheel being flush with the fender and extensions; it just depends on the angle. This crappy pic in my phone kind of shows what I mean….
Some others showing its actually pretty well designed. It’s all about the angle of the shot once again. Think you’re over-analyzing this Rick, but what’s new….
Marble,
These CF things were more than those fenders with the shipping, but honestly, there is a lot more that goes into that project than that $900. I would have just bought the entire kit from GM Parts House (fenderwall trim/fasteners/ect) and not get suckered by non-GM flairs without the necessary other crap. I thought this was creative and something I could do on my own without having to leave my Vette with strangers. I’ve had too many bad experiences, so I try to avoid that if at all possible….
The car actually rides better too, which I did not expect. The slightly widened rear track changed the “feel” of the car. Difficult to describe. It could also be the Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires I also put on. After all the bad things I read about spacers, I've been pleasantly surprised. Hub-Centric is the only way to go. It could also be the Michelin Pilot "Super Sport" Tires I also put on (take off's from a new Stingray). Now I know why the Stingray sticks well over 1g in the corners. I pulled over 1g on the G-meter in the HUD the other day, with the top down no less, which I’ve never done (record before was 1 g exactly). These tires are UNREAL. I also don’t lose control of the rear end anymore on a hard 1-2 shift. HIGHLY recommended.

Looks good but you need wider tires

Over-analyzed? Guess everyone else over-analyzed as well since then general thought is that you need to go wider. Think you're probably butt hurt I commented on the fact it didn't look good from the rear. But what's new....

Im pretty sure you told him they dont sit flush with the body when they sit exactly how they are supposed to. I think you simply misunderstood how this mod should look. It looks perfect and functions exactly how it should.
Not a Vette fan OP but looks sick! I bet it turns heads.

I'm not questioning whether they work or not or if he placed them correctly. I could add rally mud-flaps to my car & they'd do the job fine.
The fact is however, from the rear, they don't sit flush with the body because on the car they come from, the rear fenders are rolled to accommodate the wider rears. That was my suggestion to do because they don't look right.

Haha….Rick, Rick, Rick. You should use your omniscient intelligence and analytical skills to realize the splash guards on the Z06 WOULD NEVER FIT the base body fenders, and vise versa. Apsis custom makes these to order for the base body. The guy who owns the company, Jersey Wu, has a yellow Z51 C6 Vert’ identical to mine. As a result, you can custom nappa leather wrap or carbon fiber any part imaginable on the C6. Only thing is he is expensive, but the quality is second to none. The seats he makes are unreal....
Thanks man as always. My sentiments exactly.
Thanks man. I appreciate it the feedback. Yea, she turns a head or two, still, after all these years.
Here is a pic I snapped yesterday that I liked.....pics don't do this car justice though...
The only thing I'm debating is whether the $10K+ to supercharge the thing is worth it vs. put it towards my next sportscar instead....tough decision I've been debating for awhile now...

I was going to ask if they were Apsis, they are INSANELY expensive but look great. Everyone I know with a vette says splash guards are a necessity (front and rear) but that is just what I have heard.
As much as I liked the boosted 5.0 on here, I say go for a new car. You are getting to the point that you are running out tasteful mods unless you really start to hurt your pockets

Brother, that looks good!
My entire interior is done in APSIS USA carbon fiber. I've met Jersey in person-really great guy.
There is NO carbon fiber piece that is inexpensive-I know that first hand too.

That add-on definitely adds to the car. Only (minuscule) criticism is you need another 1/2 inch of tire to match, or a spacer. Then it'd be perfect Just giving you more ways to spend your mod money.

instead of going through the pain of replacing studs, wouldn't be easier just install this?
Factory studs go on to the spacer and studs on the spacer go on to the wheel?
oh i think some Hellaflush will make it look even better =)

Hence why I, just like p.diddy & Marble both, mentioned that you should have worked on the fenders to go alongside it.
But, I could tell you the cure for cancer & you'd still try to mock me like an idiot.

For whatever reason, the Vette is double the price of the 5.0 for the same damn supercharger...

And Rick, damn, even when you look dumb you still try to rationalize your comments....
I think this flows pretty damn nicely. What do you guys say?

It's sitting collecting dust in NJ not too far from you too....
Hope all is well with the wife and Charlotte as well
As far as the wheels/tires, they are 19X10 with 285 35ZR19 tires, so they're not exactly skinny. I really didn't want the wheels/tires to stick past the fenders. I may have 2 mm more at the most, but it came out as good as I could have ever hoped for without swapping the fenders. It's understated and a small touch. I like those type mods.
We will see if the C7 Z06 takes me away from what I really want. I don't plan on getting rid of my C6, so having 2 Corvette's.........
