Well two years has gone by and I started to get bored with my ST. I wanted more power, but was unimpressed by big turbo ST's. I had been reading up on MK7 GTI's for the past few months and was very impressed by them. I wanted certain options, but they were tough to come by on the used market. VW finally listened to their community and came out with a Sport model for 2017. This has the Performance Package, which includes Golf R brakes and limited slip differential. It also has the Lighting Package, which are the HID's that turn with the steering wheel. Those were the two main options I wanted and they came standard on this car. The car also included a different set of wheels specific to this model, black mirrors, and of course the infamous plaid seats. I ditched the "man pedal" in favor of DSG. The dual clutch transmission blows away a manual and makes this car very unsuspecting to others once it's tuned. Future plans include Golf R turbo (IS38), intercooler, exhaust, coils, and wheels. This will be a fun, low 12 sec car.

Sorry to see you leave the family. The GTI looks nice, especially with those brakes and headlights. I can't help but think it's going to be a huge downgrade in the interior though. No automatic climate, nav, power seats, moonroof, premium audio, or leather. I know the engine is very capable so it should give you plenty of joy. And the loss of a clutch is sad!
But enjoy in good health and wish you the best. May it treat you better than your Golf R.

I do miss the Recaros, but I was so paranoid I'd mess up the leather. While there is no navigation built into it, the car lets you plug in your Apple or Android and the navigation will appear on your screen. It's a pretty cool feature and I think more cars will go to this in the future.
I never wanted to give up my manual unless it was for dual clutch transmission. This car stock is 0.5 sec quicker 0-60 than the manual. You won't be able to shift a manual quicker than this and it doesn't lose boost between shifts. It's still really fun to drive in full manual mode.

What's the price differences between this and an R? Just curious, is all. Looks like a nice car though... that interior feels way more premium than the STs, even without the recaros and navi

The top of the line GTI will run you just about as much as the base R. I paid $10k less than the base R for mine. I would agree the interior is more premium than the ST.

Congrats on the GTI! I will admit I looked HARD at them a few months ago. I got sucked into watching vidoes on YouTube with the APR tunes. I don't blame you for going with the dual clutch either. It's one of the best autos out there and is so much quicker than the manuals in the GTIs. Great color and package choice, too. It's hard to believe how fast these things are when tuned. All the best with it and looking forward to the updates!

This site is slowly converting to cucks
Once you taste the cuck, you can't get enough
After a bad experience, I've decided to give it another chance. I talked to my mechanic and he says the MK7's have improved greatly over previous gens.
Thanks, Tyler! I look at car parts everyday. I'm just waiting to pull the trigger on them. I can't wait to mod this thing.
I got sucked in a few months ago when I saw people posting their dyno numbers and 1/4 mile times. It really is a great platform to work with for its price. I finally went WOT this morning and it's just a constant pull between gears with this transmission. I can only imagine how it will be once I start modding it.
I think it's that time
