Portable gas container - toss it?

Had to bail out a friend this weekend when he ran out of gas. Now I have this empty plastic gas container I paid 14 bucks for. Is it a good idea to keep it around for the next emergency? Will the gasoline residue inside be an issue for the next use?

Or should I just toss it?

Drain it out, and leave it uncapped in a well ventilated area (like outside)...

The leftover gas will evaporate, and the container will be totally empty. Cap it, and store it for the next time you use it...

All my cans are in use now, but I used to keep an empty 2 gallon one for years in my vw bus 'cause the gas guage didn't work (just in case).

Exactly what I needed to know! I knew it would be shame to toss it out but I thought I would have to wash it out or something.

Where in ny are you? I'd pick it up from you when I'm in NYC next month. I could always use a gas can down in Hurricane alley

He must be a city guy.
I have 3 separate portable gas tanks for various stuff around the house.
Tractor, push mower, generator, pressure washer, line trimmer, chainsaws….etc

Yeah...I'm in NYC. In all my years of driving I've never ran out of gas...knock wood. I don't own any gas-powered tools either.

I'm gonna keep the container...its definitely a good thing to have around.
