IMO, the C30 is an awesome, awesome looking car inside and out. something about 6 spd volvos give me a hard-on. ive contemplated one for quite some time. simple exterior mods will make that thing a big head turner.
...and...there are very very few on the road. for a guy with a lotus and a mini, im sure you arent quick to turn down an attention-getter
6 spd, swedish hatch ALL the way.

Guy at work has a C63 AMG as his DD and a 360 f-car on Fridays. I'm more envious of the AMG to be honest. Please don't ban me Ftty.

Keep the mini. You need a house, so save your pennies and buy that. What good is a fancy car if you drive home to an old apartment with a pot smoking neighbor.

Problem with the house situation, where I live, the area was never affected by the economy or depression...a 20x100 lot with a shitty house on it and a shared driveway (included in that lot size) costs close to a million bucks. My brother bought a house with that lot size a few years ago and paid close to that. The pricing relative to size is just bonkers in my area. I would have to live like i'm in poverty for the next 20 years before I have that kind of coin to buy a house. Not worth the money!

One of my coworkers picked up the Golf R. He loves the car so far, but if he does have one complaint, it's the gas mileage. He mentioned that the revs are still pretty high on the highway and that the mpg is a lower than he expected. He wishes the top gear was a bit taller...

I still can't get over the ~$2k gas guzzler tax they gotta slap on there, the rear tires that last about 10k miles, and the atrocious gas mileage. I mean, I know you've got to pay to play, but averaging 13mpg on a daily driver is a bit nuts...

By aggressive programs do you mean lease deals?

Just a quick update...my lease is nearing it's maturity, less than a month left.
My mental budget to lease is not to exceed $500/month....
I was offered to take over an existing lease of a White 2 door Golf R that's already modded with an APR chip, and has 3M clear bumpers already done. Price is decent (low 4's), but it's better than what it would be if I leased it new. The car is driven by one of my VW dealer reps. He leased it for 24 months (employee program), and there's like 22 months left on it. On the downside, he has it leased/registered in FL (car is in NY though), so in transferring, I would have to pay the NY sales tax.
Alternative # 2 is to lease a GTI Autobahn 6MT LOADED for like $100/month less, but it's a 36 month lease - payments would be in the low 3's +tax, a figure I would love to be around. I loved my last GTI, which is why I would consider it.
BUT Part of me wants to stay in the MINI or BMW brand...
Alternative #3 is to get a Mini Countryman S ALL4 6MT. There's an incentive I can take advantage of but would have to take delivery by 7/2. I'm fine with that, but the problem is, there isn't a single car out there that closely matches what I want. I'd rather spend the extra money and wait for a car I order. I am only considering this because I like the Mini brand, the brand is awesome, and the cars are really fun to drive. It's a little softer than my Clubman, a little slower because of added weight. I would have to change the tires, I want the sport package with 18's, but they would only give me summer tires, I would have to swap them out with the same size in an A/S tire. I also would plan on doing the same JCW stage 1 upgrade not long after. I don't like the car in the darker colors, and came to the realization that I'm going to have to put some vinyl stripe ornaments on the boot/bonnet/doors to make the look to my liking. It gives the illusion that the car is shorter than it is in the side profile. I would get it in white or silver, and it would be well equipped with Premium/Sport/Cold (no nav), with a bunch of little extra's added. The price isn't great, probably mid to upper 4's + tax, it's in my budget, but for close to the same money, I can drive a loaded BMW 328i, which leads me to....
Alternative #4, come to realize that my day of driving "different" is over, and to get a conventional car, a loaded 328i 4 door in 6MT. I learned that the xi won't be available with 6MT unless you get a 335xi, and I'm not going that high in price. I'll settle with a 328i and get another set of wheels and winter tires. I would get it in Mineral Grey with Red or Black inside, Sportline, with most options (Premium/Cold/Parking Package/Maybe Tech - MSRP is close to $50k). Lease for me would be around 5, but not including tax. RWD isn't as appealing for me to have as a daily driver, but the winter tires should help, hopefully.
The GTI deal I would have to jump on by next week. The Golf R I am waiting for him to confirm if we can do a transfer of lease if he leased it with an employee program, the MINI I think i'll just end up ordering, and the BMW I would have to order anyway.
I can't decide.....

Option # 2 - low 3's. Upfront costs would be 1st month, bank fee, dmv/plates and tax, about $2,300'ish total. 36 month lease. I would be modding it (paying for it separately) with an APR power upgrade, suspension, and probably exhaust (but not definitely). 200hp, to be bumped with mods, and FWD
Bottom line difference is Option 2 is about $100/month less, more out of pocket and more mods to pay for.
