Picked up a forgoten AWD Turbo Sedan
Hey Guys,
Was looking to pick something up AWD and to put some miles on and found this freshly traded loaded 2005 Volvo S40 T5 AWD Navigation. Mint, one owner, only volvo serviced, clean CarFax, and only 37K miles. Brand new, they're a bit pricey ($35K), but definitely a steal on the used car market. I love this thing as a daily driver! Pretty solid handling, decent torque with little turbo lag, decent gearing, comfortable seats, and very good 12 speaker dolby pro-logic stereo system. Definitely a buyers market right now in this economy!
Already getting some winter love

Test drove one before I got the TSX. Not bad, but....just not what I wanted.
The tranny is weird...you can't drop it into sport shift while it is moving. Mine went dead when I tried it on my test drive and the salesperson almost hyperventilated, worried about the tranny. Poor design, IMO

I dont know what that salesman was thinking because you CERTAINLY can put it into sportshift while driving (just did it). Also like that you can drop it into 1st and there are no automatic upshifts (unlike the TL in 1st gear).
Never thought volvo's could be so fun to drive (even with the "geartronic" tranny).

It's 218 @ 5000 rpm, but the best part is the 236 lbs of torque @ 1500-4800 rpm, so combined with the AWD, it gets off the line very quick (even when making a right or left from a dead stop).
I really like the T5 V50 too....its a really nice little wagon.

love all volvos. good buy! idk if youre interested in modding but it doesnt take much to make a volvo stand out as most ppl expect the car to be bland.
evolve makes great stuff and does wonders. but dont be fooled, it not cheap to chip a volvo like it is an audi...evolve is so pricey that you might as well of started with a more $$ car to begin with.

It really is a great car. Very Solid Build....no rattles whatsoever. Big fan of the fact that it has more torque than HP (~ 240 lb Tq). With simple Evolve software, it puts down >300 lbs of torque to the wheels.

Both are great in my opinion. My brother plans on giving the car to me as a beater once he gets a new car. It won't be much use to sell it as he won't get much for it anyway.

I've tried the geartronic transmission with the sport shifts and while they were still pretty good, my brother got a 6 speed one, and it's much better (although the pedals are REALLY close together.)

Also, the Evolve S40 T5...
After looking around, I cannot believe how much aftermarket support these Volvo's have! But things can get pricey quickly! I'm contemplating the RICA chip but its a bit over $1000. And if you want to add a downpipe/intercooler/exhaust/intake, you need a different tune and its worth waiting to tune later. I dont know how crazy I want to go with a daily driver! One thing is for sure though: Evolve and other volvo modifiers are expensive (not Porsche expensive, but definitely more than Audi)!

Yup the modifications for this car are very pricey. However if you look at the gains you get for most of the parts, they're definitely worth it, compared to the gains a Honda would get with a $500 Hondata reflash.

Congrats on the S40! You may want to consider an extended warranty on that puppy because repairs aren't cheap. That's one of the reasons I traded in my V70XC for the M35.

I literally "stole" this car. The Acura dealer it was traded into DIDNT realize it had Navigation (there was a remote in the glove box to electronically pop the screen up which the didnt see).
Got the car for 5K less than they were asking!!! Got it for $15.6K (that's INCLUDING tax and the additional 36,000 mile warranty)! They probably would have asked more if they knew it had navi

Thanks guys....this was definitely a steal. These Volvo cars are definitely under-rated. I really enjoy driving this thing! Very surprised by the steering feel/suspension/and turbo 5 cyl.

BTW, its amazing what the "do you want to sign some papers tonight?" line does to salesman at the end of the day.
