I posted these on a couple of other forums and thought i'd post them here too.

PDR stands for paintless dent repair/removal

It is the process of repairing dents without having to bondo/paint the damaged area. This is done by massaging out the dent from behind with special tools without damaging the paint.

DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF, IF YOU DO IT WILL COST YOU DOUBLE TO GET IT REPAIRED THE RIGHT WAY.

99% of the minor dents will come out, exact location of the dent makes all the difference (Could be behind a brace, double panel, unreachable)
Most of the big dents can be improved, and sometimes can even removed 100%.

I'm sharing some of my work pictures, before and after. I rarely take pictures, but these are some of the ones I have had.

great pics and work. There's a guy from md that did my rl a couple months ago. I test drove it in the rain and when i picked it up it was dry out. I was a little surprised. I was charged $500 for the entire car.

I highly doubt it. My car got a scratch in the bumper from some idiot who can't gauge distance, went to a local body shop and they were asking for 170 to fix a scratch that was like 3 inches big. talking about how he has to take it out, prime it, match the paint, etc.

Really depends on the damage. Lets say that mustang, 3 dents, 2 nickle size and one golf ball, could run u 75 - 150. depends on the guy doing it and ofcourse everybody gets a different price, depending how good u know the PDR guy.

I dont fix scratches, thats a different business. but that is a pretty decent price if he had to do a blend on the bumper.

anywhere between 50 - 125, if the dings are about dime to quarter size.

ask around dealerships and ask about their work and how long they have been doing it. there is really no way of telling, unless a whole bunch of people recommend them.

How good they are really depends on who trained them and how. Also how long they have been working for.

I have a few dings and dents on my door panel. Now I have my doors all deadened with sound deadener. Will that be a problem if I want to have my dents removed?

it will be a problem taking the dents out. sound deadening material is one thing us PDR guys hate. U can bring the dent up, but the texture is extremely hard to get right. something like dynamat is easier to deal with compared to stuff that most companies put in their cars.

I remember when I got my first ding with my Acura (02 TL-S), I couldn't stand it, so I called one of these guys, and he did a pretty good job... after talking to the guy about his profession, I was seriously considering looking up the trade schools for this... but my personal training business was at it's peak... and just lost interest

I had a really good experience with PDR.
Had a huge dent on my left front quarter panel where it looked like someone had been pushed into it. It was about 8-10 inches across. Soft dent, but big. It was fixed and looks like new. No evidence of it ever being there.
Only $200 for the huge m-f'er.

If you're really interested, I can give you the info of the guy that did mine. He is excellent at what he does. He works out of two offices in DFW. One in Arlington, and I think the other is in Keller? He was outstanding.

I also try to stay away from detailing buisnesses, etc that do PDR on the side. I try to find shops that do only PDR all day long. It is a true art and skill. Hats off to guys who do it well.

quick question, there is a car i'm looking at that has dents along the driver's front fender.
they're right where the vertical part of the fender (around the tire) bends (creases) into the rest of the fender, about golf ball sized.
i was told by some people that this can't be PDR'd because of how the dents are along that crease... there is no paint damage at all

Ok, let me describe it this way. You see how the black civic had a dent on teh front fender. The part of the fender (the part thats creased and goes around the wheel) is called the fender wheel lip. Now if you look at the lip, there are two edges of it, the outer and the inner. The inner lip is where the fender completely ends going towards the wheel, then folds inwards. The outer lip is the edge thats when u start going away from the inner lip (coming from the rim) it becomes flat, then it reaches the outer lip, and from there it takes the shape of the body itself.

If the inner lip is bent in, there is very little to be done about it, unless the bent part is not sharp.

On the outer lip, (in most cases) pretty much every dent is fixable, unless the dent is very sharp

And when u get dents in between the outer and inner fender wheel lip, which are also fixable (sometimes)

You PDR guys are just awesome I can't count the number of times my PDR guy repaired dings in my CL. every time it looked like it'd never been there and every time it was under $100.
