Painters...Need Your Help/Input Please
So I just got my race bodywork painted on my bike. I work for an insurance company, and had one of our vendors hook it up. Just paint $100 cash to one of the guys and he did it...however didn't come out with the color I wanted. I wanted fluorescent orange, but I got regualr orange with flake. It definitely looks cool and the quality is great...but I don't like orange!! They hooked it up so I can't go back there and say please do it again.
I was originally going to rattle can it because its a track bike and you crash and it's cheaper/easier to fix that way. Rattle can paint jobs are like a 7/10. This guys paint job was like a 9/10.
Can I lightly sand the clear and rattle can over it...or do I have to sand it all down, re-primer and start from scratch?
CLIFFS
-Fresh paint
-Can I sand clear and rattle can over it
-Or sand all the way down, re-primer, rattle can from scratch
TIA for any replies!!

I'd like to leave it alone...but I really just don't like orange. It basically got painted the wrong color. Any color other then red or orange I probably would have kept, but really it's just a deep orange with a little flake.
I'm going to go the rattle can route. I just painted my spare tail with some of the fluorescent orange, and love how it looks.

yeah you really need to be there when it is being painted. Sometimes if you look at the color chip you cant get a good feel of how the entire paint job will come out. If you had caught it before it was cleared, then no big deal. Just scuff and reshoot the new color.

hey pete I got one question about your skins. Did you get the upper fairing mount stays? I cant decide if I want to get the vortex one or not. Also, If you dont have the Vortex racing gas cap, it is a must on ALL track bikes. No key need to open the tank, just threads in with 2- 2 1/2 full turns. Easy install, takes about 5 min. I dont know how i got along without it! (lol im a vortex whore)

So my friend that picked up the bodywork returned it to me scratched up. Hence the picture of the tail. I don't know if he did it (he blames the shop), though a very professional shop wouldn't give you something like that.
Anyway, I called the guy, we discussed it and he agreed to repaint it. He's a very nice guy, and I just explained that one part that was black was supposed to be orange, some parts were scratched, and the orange didn't match the theme of all the other gear that is "hot" orange.
I gave him a spray paint can of the orange I liked and practiced on my spare tail with, and he said he could paint it nicely with that stuff and clear it. So that's what thier doing. I think a professional shop should be able to rattle can pretty well!!

Here's the look I'm going for btw...just "hotter" orange.
We'll see how it turns out. Their a national car repair chain, and we send them a lot of business, so I think he'll make sure it looks good. It sounded to me like they would have no problem rattle canning it and making it look perfect. I'll post pics when I get it back. Plus, its a track paint job. Doesn't need to be perfect...especially for $100.

Hey pete I have a few questions for ya. 1.) what did you use for the rim stripe? 2.) which circut(s) are you racing in? W.E.R.A, N.E.S.B.A, A.M.A or something else, or are you just doing track days?

I ran did track days my last two years. This year will be my first year doing CCS. I plan on doing 1, maybe 2 race weekends, but mostly sticking with NESBA. I'm also going to do some Sportbike Track Time track days this year because they have some dates I'd like to go to.
What about you?

Oh ya, rim tape. Ebay. You can use regular pin stripe tape from Autozone, but its a lot harder to apply. Search on the 600rr.net forum. There's guys that made a hand made tool (really easily) that helps apply the pin stripe stuff.

custom powder coated vortex rearsets!
had half the rear sets powdercoated to match the bike
the reverse shift linkage. you can set it up for normal or gp shifting. (i went with gp)

Nice.
Ya, my first track bike came with the GP shift pattern. I switched it to normal after one ride around the block. I've got a 600rr street bike and didn't want the trouble of remembering which bike I'm on, and getting used to one way then switching to the other. Too much trouble could have come from making a mistake.
I don't think most club racer guys are at the skill level where GP shift is a must. It's really for changing gears mid turn...but really you can setup in the gear you need while breaking, carry the speed through the corner that you have, then accelerate in the gear you already needed and already in out of the corner.
Some of the GP guys don't even use...though it's a racer's convenience non-the-less.
