Yeah, it has 8 speakers total, the "premium JBL" has more, but I'm more than happy with the 8 in the doors and dash, and I upgraded the dash tweeters to full range speakers as well so it's more than enough sound, especially when my HU blew the cheap MB Quartz I had originally
Thanks man, speaker upgrades are always a must for me. When did you upgrade to the big tree?
Yeah, wife and I both have lots of baby experience so I think we'll be good, definitely still lots to learn as we go though.
I finally installed my Hertz & Focal speakers in the doors & dash of the Sequoia Saturday, the 4Runner rear door adaptors (they don't have Sequoia parts) worked in the rear doors, did you use the same rear door adaptors in the hatch?

Just a small update, after about 50-100 miles driven I opened up the catch can to see if it was doing it's job and was pleasantly surprised? to see that there was in fact oil in the can, which is why I installed it so that's good. Hard to believe that all of this is floating around in the intake. (Not sure how the dog hair got in there)
Not a ton of oil, but it's definitely doing the job
dude, 100 miles...
extrapolate that to between oil changes.
That's a LOT of oil
Yeah, I'll keep an eye on it and check it periodically. If it's getting full I'll empty it, but it's supposed to go for an oil change interval, so we'll see
The wife had her baby shower yesterday, so I put the 4Runner to work hauling all the baby stuff home. My FIL suggested backing up to the front door since it was 93 deg outside.
Added my newest mod to the 4Runner. My wife forgot to order me a seat protector so that will be coming shortly, but after our little one showed up a week ago I wanted to at least have the seat base in both vehicles.
I used the seat anchor points and it fits really well, safety first!
And here is baby Ack, born on 07/18 and is absolutely perfect and adorable. Such a proud papa
Quick note on those seat protectors - they aren't regulated and in some cases allow the base to slide around, which is obviously not good. I don't run one for that reason. The dents in the seats come out with heat.
We had a 4Runner as a rental a few weeks ago on our Yellowstone/Tetons trip. They had never crossed my mind before, but after having it for a week I really, really liked it. It has a lot more room that the wife's RAV4 and I just liked the up high position and the ground clearance. Now I'm noticing them everywhere around here, especially the TRD versions. If they didn't hold their resale value so much I think I would want one.
I've always had them in the back of my mind, especially with the 2 my parents had.
Speed Academy did a quickie series & did a TRD-esque build on a Limited, love the TOYOTA grille that the TRD Pro gets. They're just still pricey (like Wranglers) even with higher mileage, especially with the current car market.

I love them, I've had 3 of them over the last 15 years. It's crazy what their values are right now, I keep getting letters saying it's worth more on trade in than what I took the loan out for when it was brand new on the lot
My brother who knows nothing about cars asked me when they were looking at Rav4's, you have a Rav4 too right? I just laughed and said nope, mines' way bigger
So...what's the sleep/feeding schedule lookin like? Daddy getting any Z's?
Depends on the day and the growth spurt, but she averaged 2-4 hours for her first 6 weeks or so, we got a week of 6-7 hrs, and now she's in another growth spurt and only sleeps 3-4 hrs, but we're working on it. She's eating and growing like crazy though!

So I got a baby and wife free afternoon since the wife took the baby to her mom's, so I finally got to swap out my JBL 3020 club dash speakers for the Infiniti Kappa 300M speakers to complete my Infiniti Kappa upgrade in the truck. Here's a quick before of the JBL's that I custom fit into the tweeter slots.
And here's a little side by side of the old and the new, I was super worried about the size of the magnets on the Kappas and if they'd fit in the dash given that the JBL's barely fit
Another side by side, the Infiniti's cones and dust cap are completely made of carbon fiber
Like everything that I do, there had to be some customization work as the stock bolts did not fit through the metal brackets on the baskets of the Kappas
I was able to reuse my custom mounting brackets that I made out of the old stock tweeter brackets, just had to do some trial and error and a little bending here and there.
The driver side turned out to be far more tricky to get installed and took the most trial and error to get it to sit right, but here it is mounted and installed.
And here's a before of the passenger side so that I could remember the orientation of the brackets, of course this pic is upside down lol
And after some trial and error and bending a tab or 2 I got it to sit right, here's a pic through the windshield
And here's a pic of it installed in the dash.
I didn't end up using the bass blockers as these are full range speakers and are 75w rms and 300w max so I wasn't worried about pushing them too hard with the Alpine Halo. Overall impressions so far is that they're a lot brighter and crisper than the JBL's, but I did have bass blockers on the JBL's also. So far I'm impressed with them and the really reflect sound off the windshield like crazy. I'm excited to play with them and listen to them a bit more to see how much better they really sound, but so far I'm impressed

Pretty par for the course. It gets way worse when you hit 4 months for about 2-3 weeks and then gets much better. We are now up to 10-11hrs at a stretch but I am knocking on every piece of wood I have and crossing fingers and toes that it stays that way.
Speaker install looks great. Audio is one upgrade I may look into for the Malibu, as the OE HU is pretty out of date & the speakers could be better.
Factory Bose, so I know that can sometimes limit upgradability.
We had a minor sleep regression this week. She was waking up around 3-4AM, but not too tough to get her back down.
I shoehorned 3" Focals in the corners of the Sequoia, was a major pita but well worth the effort.
Thankfully I'd already done the custom brackets from my last 3" install so that saved me a ton of cutting and trimming time, these were definitely a lot harder to squeeze in than the last 3" speakers because of the magnet sizes, but it definitely was worth the work
