Our local Z club... "car of the month" **PICS***

More Pics here:

http://chicagoz.com/v-web/bulletin/b...pic.php?t=3224

APS TT 350z:

ChicagoZ.com: What got you hooked to the Z that you ended up purchasing it?

BriGuyMax: I saw the new "Z" at the Detroit Auto show in January of 2002. I stood and stared at it for 20 minutes straight before my friend made me leave. I wanted a RWD Japanese Sports car, and it came down to choosing between a used Supra Turbo or the new 350Z. I couldn't justify paying over 30 grand for a 5-6 year old car, so that's why I have the Z.

ChicagoZ.com: What action does your Z mostly see? drag, autox, road race, show car, weekend car, and/or daily driver...

BriGuyMax: My Z started out as my daily driver, but now it's basically just my nice weather car. It sees the drag strip a couple times a year, and I'll start taking it to road courses again late this summer when I upgrade the cooling system.

ChicagoZ.com: Any performance specs? 1/4 mile@mph, whp/wtorq, track times...

BriGuyMax:
Power: 430whp @ 9psi, 460whp@ 10psi
0-60: approx. 3 seconds
1/4 Mile: 11.72@120mph 1.73 60'

ChicagoZ.com: What other modifications are you planning on doing to the Z, if any? Whether it's performance, handling, appearance, and/or sound system....

BriGuyMax: In the near future I'm going to upgrade the cooling system and install an oil cooler. I've also been tossing around the idea of APS 3.5in test pipes, APS 3in. true dual exhaust and methanol injection to see how far I can take the stock motor. If and when I blow it up, I'll have a built motor waiting to be installed.

ChicagoZ.com: Won any awards? Have any sponsorships?

BriGuyMax: Negative. My car isn't about show, it's about going fast and looking basically stock.

MODIFICATIONS:

Engine and Drivetrain:
APS Twin Turbo kit
Completely stock motor
JWT HD clutch and lightweight aluminum flywheel
Helix test pipes and a Borla true dual cat-back exhaust (2.5 inch dual)

Brakes:
13.1 in. Stoptech big brake kit

Suspension:
Nismo S-tune

Exterior:
Front clear corners

Interior:
Greddy Profec-S electronic boost controller, Defi Boost Gauge, AEM UEGO Wideband A/F meter.

Wheels:
Front 18x9.5in Volk SF-Winning wrapped in 245/40-18 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 tires, Rear 18x10.5in Volk SF-Winning wrapped in 295/35-18 BFGoodridge Drag Radials.

doesnt matter how good of a driver you are if you get no traction on the launch. You need them slicks.

nice Z tho.

IMO the APS TT kits are the best out of all the turbo kits out there for the 350Z.

The VQ35 engine has to be my favorite engine of all times...

And apparently Nissan's favorite too, considering they use it in almost all their products.

Too bad I live in NE, otherwise, I'd consider getting one.

Wait a second. Why in the word would he need to use one of those tapes that convert audio from a portable cd player?

You can buy those tapes by themselves at any radio shack and you can plug the 1/8th inch connector attached to it to any cd player/mp3 player/whatever.

LOL...Brian is a good friend of mine. I've driven his car before and was impressed how OEM the car felt with the APS kit. His car has battle wounds right now. His front and rear bumpers need to be re-painted.

I don't doubt it's in the 3s with the BFG DR's. His car pulls hard from a stop without any wheelspin.

i hear the lighter flywheel helps out a great deal but kind of kills the car as a daily driver...unless you don't mind the constant glares as you peel out from every stop

I've driven a couple different performance cars with Aluminum flywheels and none were hard to drive. My brother has one in his M3 along with an aftermarket clutch. The only complaint I has is that it makes noise.

I would disagree. You just have to adjust your technique. I have a hard time getting used to my brothers clutch. After a few minutes, I get used to it and it's natural. I've driven my friends C5(470whp) with an aftermarket flywheel and 6 puck clutch. I've never peeled out, instead I just slip the clutch a bit more than I usually would in my Mustang.

Possibly, I have personally never driven one but i have heard one ...just heard complaints on my350z.com. The noise and loss of low end torque in 1st and second gear were enough to keep me away. It's not really a dragger's mod IMO...and on that note..basing your 0-60 on 1/4 mile times is flawed logic.

way cool man!! I have probably seen it..

I was at one of the meets up in the MT Prospect area.

I am friends with Dinokostas(Dino), he is stock except for enkei rims.

I will be attending some meets and hope to hitch a ride in something that hot and fast.

Quick question for someone with a Z. I'm watching my friends Z while he's out of the country and i cant find the owners manual in the car. There's a round yelow light by the gas gauge and i'm assuming it's a "low fuel reminder", but the gauge shows 1/4 tank. Does it come on that soon, or is it possible that the light or gauge is malfunctioning? Maybe it means something else? I don't drive it often and will certainly put gas in it so it doesn't run out, but i'd like any input for reference. Appreciate it!

It most likely is the tire pressure indicator. I have snow tires on my Z now and the light is always on. It looks like a (~~) with the tilda's supposed to represent squiggly lines underneath the arrows.

Here is another picture:

No, its the round light directly under the "E". Like i said, i'm almost positive (out of common sense) it's the low fuel indicator, just looking for input from an owner on my post. Thanks for the reply though!

Why should living in the NE stop you from buying one? I live in Buffalo and have a ZR that I get plenty of use from.
