opinions on RSX TYPE S

I test drove a new RSX type S this past weekend, looking for a new daily driver. Power output was about what I was expecting, runs pretty good, winds out at high rpm. Anyone have one yet or have any opinions about them?

Thanks,
snakeiz

I originally bought an RSX, but after close examination I realized the dealer fooled me into buying a Toyota Paseo so I returned it.

I was given on to drive for a day when my car was in for service......It was fun to drive, but too small for my taste.

2.0 liter 4 cylinder dohc vtec engine is cool.and cool interior too..climate control ..bucket seats..and 6 speed manual..it is cool for a daily drive car..but rear seats might be tight...otherwise it is a pretty FWD car..

I have one at the moment for a loaner. It is a nice little car and feels lighter than my TL, for obvious reasons. The steering wheel is a bit small, the blind spot is huge, it has no arm rest, and there are a few places that you can see acura cut costs. Overall, it is a fab little car.

The one thing that I really hated when I had a loaner was the red dash lights. It just grated on me big time.....

I would sooner go with a Accord Coupe V6...

IMO

I had a rsx-s loaner for 2 days recently and it was pretty fun to drive. especially running it through all 6 gears. it doesn't make much power until 5k rpm but you can rev it till 8k! it seemed small and the ride quality wasn't even as good as my cl-s on race springs. even w/ leather it seemed alot like a civic. i test drove one when they first came out and nearly bought one but i'm glad i waited cuz i would've paid $24,500 and i got the cl-s for $25,500 with headers, exhaust and springs. the rsx is a nice car but i was sure glad to get my car back.

Exactly what I would say.

It depends on what you are looking for in a daily driver.

Both cars have their and :thumbsdn: .

For a daily driver I would want safety, reliability, useable power, and some comfort.

but different strokes for different folks. i like smaller cars and the cl-s was just to boaty for me and at the time only the auto was available so i got the rsx-s. i am happy with my choice for now until the cl-s 6 spd comes out

Think about the advantages you are getting with the WRX.

1) AWD, which means all weather.

2) 4 doors instead of 2.

3) MUCH MUCH more power and bang for the buck.

4) Better styling

5) FUN FACTOR---this is huge. The RSX is NOT fun to drive compared to a WRX.

6) 1 year free membership to SCCA with purchase.

GET THE WRX!!!

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I visited the rsx board but it seemed to be mostly the younger crowd and was just wanting an opinion from the more mature group. I am just looking for a good, dependable, fun daily driver for myself, no wife or kids. Not looking for a race car, I can always bring the Viper out for that. Still shopping around...going to give the WRX a look.

Lemme 2nd that as to why I stay here ...

I am somewhat regretting no even looking at the WRX, but I am a big Acura fan so I am biased Basically, the RSX is a rev happy 4-cylinder with excellent peak HP, but basically no torque. It handles very well (I had a GSR and it is much better than that was) and once it winds up can really pull - 200HP is up there eventually. The 6MT is pretty dang fun for me, but I don't have to deal with traffic since I work at home (that is why ALMOST got the CLS 6MT).

The CLS rides better, has MUCH better torque (read - easier to tap the power), better ammenities like stereo and seats.

I went with the RSX-S cause I kinda missed the light/agile car feel and traded some low end grunt in. Also helped that the RSX-S is a cheaper car.

I can tell you that I hope Acura follows the path of the 6MT, perhaps making the CL in to 2 cars ... something more like a Legend Coupe with $35K+ price and focus on luxury and then a much sportier focus and lighter 300HP 6 cylinder with AWD and 6MT for the true coupe enthusiats. If Acura delivers on that ... I will stay with Acura for my next car for sure - I thin they will.

In the mean time ... blastin' thru the twisties in the RSX and hearing 8K RPM's will be in my near future as I whip thru the 6MT.

I've been thinking about the RSX, for a commuter car, too. I also have thought about the WRX. However, how does Subaru quality and reliability comparer to Acura's? It would be nice to have the power of the WRX, but I wouldn't want to be in the shop every other week either.

I just read from a Club RSX post that a Type-R in new zealand is only 18000 US. How much would it cost to import it? Is it legal to import it from NZ and then put a cat on it for emissions?

Reliability? Quality?

I can guarantee you that there have been more blown engines, and fucked up transmissions on RSX's than WRX's.

Go over to the scooby board and check it out. Subarus are great cars.

check out www.i-club.com . It's a good site. One of my friend's bought a WRX and he's on that site. I read sometime's b/c I love the WRX....

My only other thought is to just keep in mind MPG. If you're looking for a daily driver, the RSX-S is rated at 27/31mpg and the WRX is 20/27mph, which isn't to bad, but has a much lower city rating. If you don't care too much about that... get the WRX... that thing is hot and looks like soo much fun!!

I like the Celica GT-S over the RSX. Handles better, and is "sexier" looking.
