Is there an expiration date on new and unused motor oil --specifically mobil 1 synthetic oil? Does oil deteriorate when left unused for prolong periods?

 

good q. i havent seen one and i scrutinized that bottle. i can safely say that after sitting around for 6K+ milkes, i did not have any problems with it when i used it for oil change. as long as its not open and exposed to anything, i think you are fine.

Thanks Malayalee, the 5 yrs is just about right. I emailed them about the self life of syn mobil 1 oil and got this reply:
