Question Oil Change for the 95 Pathfinder

Time to get my pahty its first oil change under my ownership.

Never owned a truck before. So, I don't what type of oil was used prior.

Regardless, the car has nearly 170K....so, what might a good oil to use at this point?
A high mileage sythetic?

Input is welcome, thanks in advance.

I don't know how mechanically capable you are, so don't take this as me talking down to you. But if I recall on that particular vehicle the oil filter is most easily accessable through the passenger side wheel well. If your doing it on the ground just crank the wheel all the way to one direction and it will gain you a little more room. Also the exhaust manifold is awfully close so make sure its not really hot the first time you do it, or you might burn yourself.

As for oil, just use any major brand oil, Havoline, Pennzoil, Quacker State, Mobile, Valvoline, etc... I think to many people get worked up over what oil to use.

Thanks

probably just going to have my regular guy do it though.

I'm not really getting worked up over the type of oil...but I didn't know if I should stick with real oil...or a high mileage based synthetic blend is best since the car has really high miles.

Figured you guys would have better input.

The high mileage oils are pretty neat they have more of an additive that swells seals slightly, thus reducing possibly leaks and seaps. My old oil rep used to strongly recommend it for first oil changes on cars because then you were just about assured to never have a leak - not sure if there's any truth to it but he was a strong believer and new a hell of a lot more about it then I did.

If your looking for specific oil recommendations Michael Wan does know more about oil then any one person should
