The Official Wagon/Avant Discussion Thread
I want the olds version with the Diesel motor in it. My parents good friends used to have one and we (all 8 of us) would mojo into that thing every year for a 2 week trip to Disney every year. That thing was a blast. It would hold 2 roof top carriers on the roof. If i could find one in great shape today i would be tempted to buy one.
I talked to a shipper/converter to get my A4 TDi S-Line imported to the states if I were to get relocated. The cost would be between $14,000 - $18,000 USD. Not only do you have to pay shipping, you have to pay customs fees, taxes (import, titles, tags, etc), conversion from Euro to US standard (lights, window glass, dash, emissions, etc), and fees to the importer UP FRONT for importing, ordering parts, labor, etc.
Because the car you're talking about hasn't been imported often enough (to have a set standard price), you will have to pay custom fees. Plus, all parts would have to be ordered direct from Audi Germany because the parts aren't available from Audi USA.

Basically, yes, Electra / Park Avenue although in the late 80s they treated the wagons like a separate line just called Estate Wagon. If it had fake tree it was more Electra-like and if it had no panelling it was more LeSabre-ish
My dad bought several new Chevy Caprice wagons in a row in the 80s and 90s, and I remember thinking the Buicks were just the shiznit - I guess anything just one step up always seems that way. Only one of his Caprices had the fake dead trees, a blue '89, and I think that was also called "Estate" basically meaning top of the line. It was a very nice car but when it was still near new another Caprice (sedan) crossed the centerline and hit him head on. Friggin DESTROYED the car, but he was more or less OK. Amazing really, because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Came close to buying a 95 Caprice wagon just like this one, with an LS1 swap and SS susepnsion, full Flowmaster dual exhaust. Thing sounded mean. My wife said it was ugly. I said, but honey listen to it. She said, honey LOOK at it
Ended up with a 2000 Passat wagon which I love anyway, but man that thing was a sleeper
Any Audi/BMW wagon has my vote, along with the Accord/TSX wagon.
