while the car seems to be in good condition cosmetically, you do need a better camera.

Looks clean.
I hope they used that effect by accident and aren't hiding bad paint.

Did you those pictures with a potato?

Car looks good, low mileage. If the title is clean, no rattles/funny noises, drives good, feels solid, and the price is good, have at it. S2000's don't really have any major issues to be concerned about other than previous owner abuse.

It's the shitty photos from the listing - working on getting some high resolution images. Will post once I receive.

Thanks guys

Dude same. I was actually at a dealership to cosign for someone else years ago, and they had a red AP2 with ~40k in the low $20s. I fell in love driving it. My life situation was a little unstable at the time so I didn't pull the trigger, but looking back, I could have and maybe should have.

I still toy with the idea now and then. If only I could manage two cars. Don't have the space, and I have taken advantage of the BRZ having a backseat many times. The fact that it folds is great too. I actually enjoy having passengers, and I feel my car is too loud sometimes.

Cams + Hondata tune on an AP2 is so nuts. It's hard to believe a streetable N/A 4-cylinder can be so raw. If only cams were as easy on a boxer motor.

I must post this here.

so a friend owns a Berlina black S2k that was slightly modded, lowered, exhaust wheels, other minor little things and he bought the hardtop, believe it had about 70k miles on it give or take. The car looked brand new he is pretty anal about his car.

He sent me a picture of an STI....

Me: where the fuck is the S2k?

Him: I sold it...

Me: I'm in the market for one, bastid how much did you sale it for?

Him: 17k, if I knew you were in the market I would have dropped it to 16k for you.

He won't tell me if he traded it or sold it, because I know he could have got more for it.

I was pissed and depressed all last night and still am this morning...

Another friend has a Sebring Silver, but I'm certain he will not part with it.

The seller sent some better resolution photos of the car and it looked great. I decided to purchase this one so i'm pretty stoked! Got a good feeling about it - Seller is in his 60's, previous owner before him was in his 50's, only used as a weekend car its whole life. He would only sell it to me if he could purchase the Boxster he wanted from a family member so that made me feel like it was real solid. Miles are supported by annual DMV registration, new tires 1K miles ago, clean title, some slight cosmetic issues but I'll work to get those corrected.

I fly out to PA on Sunday to drive it back home to WI. My question for you guys is whats your take on getting it compression tested? I'd likely have to take it to a shop for PPI/compression test but I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle out in PA and being a Sunday.

Have him do it and pay the shop with credit card over the phone.

for a 10+ years old car... 40k miles or not.

a cylinder test is the least he can do for you. I agree. Let him pay for it ... or maybe it is too late now.

I'm in the Milwaukee suburbs.

Yeah it might be a little too late. The PPI services I found online have no mention of doing compression tests. I could see an owner quickly objecting to some dude showing up and removing spark plugs on their car - I know I probably would. We'll see how it goes...

Oh puhhlease, keep searching. The right one is out there, just have to be patient.

IIRC, I test drove 4 cars before finding my AP2.

They looked great on the outside, good interior shape, but when it came down to engine health they had piss poor compression or had leaks ...

Get the test done one way or another. Ask that the test be done during PPI, not that big of a deal.

Nah not necessarily broke, present value of money. Economics 101! If you can get a decent interest rate (I.e. Less than inflation) then it makes sense to just get a loan and put your money elsewhere. I got 1.99% for my TL and have no rush in paying it off... 4.5 years to go !!

That interest rate is damn good, 1.99% on a used car older than mine is pretty impressive - getting a good rate wasn't really in my lenders best "interest" , so I've doubled up payments & used parts of last years bonuses for a more immediate pay off. Puts it at around 2.5% when it's said and done

My credit certainly isn't bad (780), but it isn't great either. I was having a hard time getting a competitive rate for a car under $15,000 & 10 years old

Credit unions typically offer very very competitive rates . Check one out near you. They sometimes have some membership requirements I got into one when I was a school employee and it was worth it! I'm also part of another one (Alliant) that requires an easy workaround: something along the lines of donating to some PTA gave me access to that one, IIRC.

Paying with cash is good too if you got it . But I don't want to drop 15K right away. I would rather put that 15K in stocks/bonds/ mutual funds and make some money off of it in 5 years

I would finance mine but......

Just bought the house
Just bought the Explorer

Don't want to try to find someone to finance a 9-11 year old car with probably over 90k on the dash.. If I was able to do that I would take that 15-16k and put it in some stocks.

lol, just giving you sh1t. No one wanted to finance an 11 year old car regardless of miles at a rate I was willing to pay so I just paid cash for the S2000.

The Jeep, however, is financed at 0% which is a no brainer.

Anything rate less than the rate of inflation (~3%) should be considered too!

Think the same for me. I was browsing to see if I could find anyone, most have mileage restriction and/or the car has to be a 2008 and up....

That's odd.. I don't remember reading any restrictions like that with my CUs. Here's the one I have but didn't go with: http://www.alliantcreditunion.org/loans/vehicle/auto/

Key words are "as low as". I'm sure if you read the fine print it'll say something along the lines of "actual rate depends on vehicle value/age/whatever".

while every lender is different. most of them have some kind of restriction based on year/mileage/value on auto loans.

But i am sure if you try hard enough you can find a lender no matter how old the car is.

Also Credit card is not a bad choice if you can pay it off within 1 year or 2 with 0% introductory APR or some other creative ways of using the CC.

Going on the first road trip with the S2000 this weekend. Heading up the north shore of Lake Superior, should be an awesome top down drive.

Just washed the car up tonight, ready to rock tomorrow afternoon.
