not impressed w/ g35 coupe

Sup

I went to my local infiniti dlrship 2 day and checked out the new G35 coupe and overall i wasn't too impressed....when i got there the 1st thing i noticed on the car was the stocker price----$41,000 ....MSRP was mid $37K and it wasn't even the top of the line w/the 6speed and brembos (this $41K had some BS delaership installed BS)

The car does look nice in person though and is very sweet looking design, it'll def turns heads 4 the time being...however, the interior was what made me dislike the car...the interior is SHIT...the $41k car had misaligned vents and the vents and some places in the dashboard weren't screwed in tight b/c they were coming off, esp. if one applied some force to it

the seats are nice, but IMO, the new accord coupe has a nicer interior quality wise....i've been in an 03 coupe a few times and the interior is pretty solid (nothing misaligned or out of place)

On another note, i also checked out the new saab 9-3 and i really liked the car alot, i couldn't get over some cheap fabric they used 4 the doors but that was my only complaint re: the interior....the salesman told me that the top of the line 9-3 would have leather inserts so thats not a bif deal...the interior of the car is sweet and the seats are awesome...i can see myself getting a 9-3 over the g35coupe anyday of the week

just thought i'd share w/u guys

p.s. beltfed if ur reading this, if u don't get that volvo, that 9-3 wouldn't be a bad compromise (plus 3yrs maintenance is included on the saab)

I saw one last night leaving bestbuys, driven by what looked like hi-school kids. Looked great, red, with 19"s and still have the new car tag. But the he didn't look making a left turn and pulled out in front of a civic. It could have been a sad story.

I like that new saab too.

I think I will be getting rid of my acura in the coming year. I've had too many fucking problems.

And now I think my rotors are warped AGAIN and tranny needs to be replaced AGAIN!

Yes, I sat in one last week and the interior is just as 80’s looking and cheap feeling as the photos suggest.

i read from the small tv in my elevator at work where nissan is doing pretty good due to some cost cutting and getting rid of people they didnt need. i guess the cost cutting is using the same motor in damn near every car and using cheap materials for interiors. g35 does LOOK nice though but thats about it.

Careful with the SAAB...it's GM these days. My ex-wife had a '99 9-3 that was alright for a while. But, when crap started fallin' apart, it was a nightmare, and the dealer was a real pain in the ass. But, if the maintenance is covered for 36k, then maybe you can save your money for the problems at 40k.

In this price range, IMO for sedans and coupes the 330 still rules champion. I don't know how they picked the G35 over a 330 it's not better.

German cars are getting more and more overpriced. The 330 is at least $5k more than a G35. The new Z4 with the 2.5 engine starts at $34k, can go up to $40k. The Z4 3.0 starts at $41k and it can go up more than $46k. That is wayyy too much for a Z4. It seems like everytime a German car gets redesigned, its price goes up a few thousand.

also, the saab aftermarket is quite extensive (i.e. performance aftermarket)...there is a shit load that can be done to the car performance wise....i.e. a chip can add up to 30 hp on the car etc...

And the richer keep getting richer so they can throw more money at these cars but seriously, I took a 330 out for a test drive the other day and it was the first car in a long list of cars that actually made me grin.

I just bought a new 03 CLS 5A with ebony and titanium accents. I gave the G35 coupe a serious look but there several things that led me to buy the CLS. First, they are asking way too much for a G35 coupe with the same features that come standard on the CLS. To make things a bit more annoying, Nissan's strategy to make their customers pay for all and any options is obviously a revenue focused; however, any educated buyer will see that this strategy is flawed given the hugh range in price from a stock to loaded G35 coupe. Secondly, the G35 coupe's interior says "luxury at its cheapest" and it shows. Thirdly, the roominess front and back did not seem to compare well with the CLS. The CLS just looks and feels more luxurious. All in all, I agree that the G35 is sweet looking on the outside, but they need to work more on the fit an finish on the inside to get my dollar.

I just went through the same thing. I test-drove the G35 coupe two week-ends ago. I have to admit it was TIGHT! But that interior was a dog. On top of 6k+ over a CL-S. So I traded my '00 Accord EX-V6 Coupe in for a new '03 CL Type S last Saturday.

Congrats Fast Eddie on you purchase! You made the right choice.

Red Rider and other Mod Happy Dudes:

Okay, after reading comments from several members on this forum, it seems like a huge aftermarket for Acura products. With this in mind, please educate the uneducated when it comes to modifing a 03 CLS auto.

Questions on modifications: (1) what to do with brakes to increase stopping power and what effects does aftermarket brake updgrades and wheel/tire packages have on ABS and VSA? (2) what is the best measure to gain low end torque and horsepower on the market within a reasonable price? (3) what is the best way to "spice up" the suspension without sacrificing the ride? (4) what company provides the best proven parts on the market (5) who do you suggest does the labor - aftermarket company or dealer? (6) should I wait to do the mods since I plan on owning my CLS for 5+ years?

New 9-3 is looking really nice. I don't know why Saab purists are complaining about the lack of the hatchback.

Fellas I know we are entitaled to our own opinion but I'm sure there is some bitterness concerning the G35. I just read an article on autospies where the next gen. 3-series will cost less and offer more standard features due to competition from Infiniti. With that being said I think the G-series from Infiniti is a success.

No, we all know that the g35 will be a sales success thats not the point...the thing is, when i looked at the interior of the car, I was like "it ain't so bad"....but then I sat in it and started feeling it and thats what changed my mind....i know infiniti can mke some nice interiors i.e. m and q45

btw, nice car perry

No bitterness intended - I'm merely stating what I found during MY comparison of the two. The performance of the G35C was nothing short of astounding! I think the body design is sexy as hell, too. I was just disappointed in the interior layout. I did love the power seat controls on the inside though. And I think the stock sound system was better than Acura's.

All-in-all, the decision for me came down to this:

1. Value: Having driven Honda's and been amazed with the reliability and resale, I felt more confident of Acura. And with my wife buying a TL in April, the cost difference between the two was a factor.

2. Storage: I travel for a living and sometimes have to take more than one bag with me to O'Hare. The Acura's trunk is twice the size - check the specs.

3. Rear wheel v. front wheel drive: I live in Chicago and have clients that I sometimes choose to drive to instead of fly throughout the Midwest -- year round. Sometimes the opportunity to get in the car for a couple of hours is refreshing.

4. Sons: My step-kids (17 and 20) are already lining up for the chance to get mom and my cars when we decide to retire them!

For anyone planning on leasing, the decision between the G35 and the CL-S becomes a no-brainer.

G35 coupes are pretty much selling for sticker, while you can get pretty substantial discounts on the CL-S. We were pretty much ready to order a G35 coupe after our test drive until we found out what the lease payments were going to be. Including tax, and with $2400 out of pocket, the G35 was $175 more a month than a comparable CL-S 6-speed with $800 out of pocket.

Over 39 months, and including the diff. out of pocket, that's over $8,000. The G35 is a very nice car, but it's not worth $8k more than the CL over the length of the lease!

So, we contacted a few dealers, got a great offer on an in-stock Anthracite CL-S 6-speed, and will be joining the club December 12th!

3) Comptech Sway Bars. No effect on ride quality, massive increase in twisty ability.

5) Dealer would be better, imho

6) Do the mods now!!!!

Totally agree with you...my next car will be either a 350z or g35c, but 540 a month? You've got to be fucking kidding...isnt that mid to upper 40k territory for other cars? For that much money //m roadster enters my mind...
