No maintenance cost on BMW???

My friend's had a hard on for a 540 for the longest time. We took one for a test drive today but I didn't drive. He asked the salesman about maintence cost and the salesman said it was nothing. He said the 1st 36k miles or something was included with the purchase price. He said after that, there were no tune ups till 100k. Yeah, our CL isn't supposed to need a tuneup for 100k either, but you still have to do stuff like change fluids, etc. I've always heard that BMW's required a lot of TLC which gets expensive. Is this guy full of it or have things changed? Nice car though.

Maintance for the 1st 36 months are free, after that you gotta pay. Tune up is at 100k, but that is not maintance.

I didn't really get to play with it. It was a fully loaded demo with 2200 miles on it. The salesman went over a few of the features. And it has plenty of features. Rear sunshade. Rear side pull up sunshades. The navi screen was more of a multifunction display since it accessed stereo controls and trip computer stuff in addition to the navi. 6 disc cd changer in trunk. Battery in trunk. 5 identical alloy wheels (ie. full sized spare) Nice leather. I liked that the automatic shifter looked like a manual gearshift. My friend never really punched it, but it did feel quick and smooth. The transmission felt nice. The wheels said they were 17" but they looked bigger and much lower profile than ours. Sticker was 60k which included a 1300 gas guzler charge. The salesman said he could deal much better on a 6 speed. But I'm advising my friend against it. He's never owned a stick and barely ever driven one. I feel you're either a stick person or you're not and that's largely determined by what you start out on. I'd hate to see him spend a shit load of money and then feel like driving it is a chore.

free maintanance is 3 yrs/ 36K miles; there reallly are no tune ups at all, everything is pretty much self adjusting.

The first 36K miles are pretty much cost free for all items on the car except fuel. Burn your brakes up, replaced at no cost. Good deal. BMW offered this program in response to Audi, who did it first.

Nice idea. But, if you add it up, it's not that much. About 2-3 scheduled maintenances (oil changes).

My friends said in NOVA/DC there is like a 3 month wait at BMW dealers for any maintenance.

3 year /36 milles maintance will not cost more than $1000.
BMW has already included all maintances costs in its sales price.
Thats why you have to pay 10 grand more to get the same class of car as CLS. You also get some free subscribtion to BMW magazine
Is it realy worth of paying 10 extra grands for all this??

There is nothing free in this country, only cheese in the mouse-trap :

You pay so much extra money for BMW, that u could do maintance for 200K miles
