New toy-GTO or S2k?

I have been looking into getting a new toy and have narrowed it down to these two cars (I know very different animals). The GTO is a 2005 with 29k miles on it (my little brother's car). The S2k is a 2008 fresh off the truck-white over red (my favorite combo). The GTO is typical American-big V8 that sounds great, but the damn thing seems to float everywhere. The S2k is a blast to drive, but lacks that intoxicating aural pleasure. As of right now-I am pretty torn. What do y'all say?

The S2k. It has a killer color combo. You can always modify your exhaust setup.
And nothing beats having a vert during the summer.

Depends on what kind of driving you want to do with it.

The S2k is a true canyon carver. It never met a curvy road it didn't like. Not a lot of power down low, but an intoxicating sound as you rev it.

GTO is more a cruiser. Good on the curves, but not nearly as telepathic as the S2k. Big power when you want it. Lots of potential for more power.

that really is a tough decision............how many good "driving" roads are there in Austin? Do you plan on tracking much?

I live in the gateway to the hill country-the roads around here are kick-ass.

This new car will be used for the occasional trip to the office, spirited run through the hill country, and a few track days per year.

I like the idea of the S2k because some tracks are just more fun in a small "tossable" car then in the Viper. However, I love the sound of the LS2 with the Corsa exhaust-and I have heard that the goat can hold it's own on a track.

Blagh-i'm torn.

yep, i'll say S2K too. That said, make sure you know what tracks out there require as far as roll cages in verts now. OUt here at a lot of events it's now mandatory.

You keeping the Viper or CTS-V?

If so, then get the S2k.

Yes, I am keeping the viper (I never plan on selling that). I've never had a CTS-V though

This very reason has me leaning towards the S2k . . .

Sounds like my thread all over again. S2K !

+1 to modding the exhaust. I plan to do this as well once I get to know my "new" one a little better. I test drove an S2K earlier in the week with a Magnaflow single exhaust and wow did it sound good. Loud, but good.

Since you have a Viper get the S2K, if no Viper I'd say GTO because of it's huge power advantage and modability.

get the S2K and mod it, the Rotrex supercharger should be out for it in a little bit, turbo power from a supercharger.

Get the S2000. I'm actually in the market for a new S2000. The lowest I've found so far for a new 08 is $29,988 + dest + TTL.

I won't mod the S2k if I get it for a couple of reasons:
1) I have already modded the crap out of my viper (fully built engine among other things) and am done waiting months on end for parts, shop time, etc.
2) I like the S2k for what it is-a ridiculously fun, tossable car that is pretty darn close to perfect in stock form. It isn't meant to be a huge power maker and will never be.

I am off to the Honda dealership tomorrow, so we will see what they say . . .

If you have the viper, then that's another reason to get a S2K. Since you already know what torque is all about, I think you will find a totally different experience with a car that emphasizes on peak hp!

Well, it looks like it wasn't meant to be-the dealer is not budging on the price and hasn't even come close to MSRP. Their loss as they have almost 10 in stock right now.

Another echo here but for a toy definitely get an S2000.

You picked one of the worst times.... right at the beginning of spring. Shoulda shopped around right as winter began to pick up

I think A Viper/S2K combo makes a lot more sense than a Viper/GTO combo.
Viper/S2K would provide you with a much more well-rounded stable.

You, Peter, and I just need to stop being little girls and buy one. Im sure if we got 3 at a time the'd budge on the price a little!

S2K, g-money. If your moms was for sale, it would be mine right now. I love that thing.
