New MB E63....
New MB E63....
Got this from one of the Benz boards. Supposedly this is the new E63 that will come out within the next 12-18 months and that the 63 will replace all the higher end (CL, SL, S, CLS, E) 5.5 engines. Sadly though it only has 550hp

The reason I said it was a smart move is that there are a lot of people out there who will look at both cars and will buy the faster model. BMW will up the hp in the M5 within 2 years if MB does this.

goldmember: yeah there aren't too many 500 hp sedans out there. this will also throw Mercedes into th elite "500" club. the list is getting longer with the new M5 and (soon to be out) Z06 with that LS2 motor in it. they are saying that will be a 500 hp beast.
. When I graduated high school I remember talking to my dad about the z06 at the time I told him 400 hp that's a TON of HP I don't think unless you race you'd need that much. (he was born in 1950 so he grew up with the Chargers the orginal GTOs, all the big name muscle cars)he had a Charger 68 or 69(i forget) with a 440 with a 4 speed and a 4 barrel carb. it had like 400 hp. he bought it from a guy that bought it new dragged it a season or 2. sold it to dad. all he did was take off the "parachutes" and wheelie bars.other than that dad was driving a dragging beast. in a town of about 15,000 people he could beat everyone but 3-4 cars(they had the old Dodge Hemi in them) which is rated at 425 hp. He said one weekened On Friday he put in a fresh clutch, fresh set of tires. He raced so much Friday night, Saturday and Sunday that by Sunday night the tires and clutch was trash. the guy he bought it from in that class he raced in had a limit i guess of what kind of clutch you could put on the car so he had to put stock or close to stock back on it. well dad went and got a racing clutch. he said you about had to STAND on the clutch for it to go in.
. he said it defintately would be a car you'd want to take across the country.
He's still into racing. but the thing neat about him is because he works for Honda he's into both Import and the old style hot rods. we'll occassionally go to the classic car shows. but I grew up with like Civic Si and Supras. and dad helps me tune my SCCA solo2 car (which i dynoed it at 130 wheel hp). the most powerful car i ever drove is Z06 with some small mods(intake, exhaust ,headers) but that still probably puts down 375 wheel hp. but to think MB and BMW will probably put down 450 wheel hp that's crazy.
My short rant: wheel hp vs crank hp. wheel hp is what you feel. I know crank hp is easier to achieve for example 500 crank hp but you'll never feel all 500 hp without some mods or doing something to it. that's the reason i wish car makers would measure in wheel hp.
