new to the forums, need help deciding on acura TL

hey guys im new here, so sorry if i didnt post this in the right spot, iam getting a new car soon after i get my drivers license, only 15 1/2 and my birthday is in augest. the reason why i get such a nice car for a 16 year old is becuase for those people who live in washington state knows about the wasl, so the story is that my parents didnt have faith in me passing it so we made a deal in writing, so i passed all 3 state required assesments and passed so now i get my self a new car. ok so now about the cars, im thinking about a Acura TL in my area its going to be about $36,795.00 with navi, and $34,295.00 with out navi. my question is a TL better over the acura TSX? also is navi a really want to have item in the car? also im planning to get a set of Ronjon Legend Liquid Silver rims, and a body kit with my own money.

Go with the TSX as your first car and get it with Navi.

TSX are nice, but theres just something i dont like about it, i really perfer a TL over the TSX, i dont have to worry about having a really nice car as a first car, since right now im driving with a permit a 05 Toyota Camry and im use to it and how big it is. becuase im thinking not to get navi in the TL and get a aftermarket sound system. hey for you guys that own a TL is the sound system bump?? becuase i really like music that have a lot of bass. but i do not want to get subs. also this new car will be my only car for a while so i would like to pick on and stay with it, then save up and modify it, i dont want to go trade in a car and spend more. i like the v6 engine in the TL, plus next summer i will be having a fat road trip with my friends we have like 10 people in 10 differ cars heading to cali from washinton, and for us theres tons of hills, and there 4000ft climbs so i would like to have the extra power. i really dont care about gas milage, i have money.

well i was trying to compare it, like the specs . becuase if the reason are right it can change my mind. TSX is nice, but i dont really like the style , but if it offers more options i will consider it over the TL

How about doing your own research? www.edmunds.com All the specs you would ever care to know about a vehicle.

What's up with all these spoiled kids posting about how much money their parents have....it's getting old, real quick.

Well, since you're a fellow Washingtonian, I say go for the TL-S with a navigation; unless thats to expensive . The way I see it is A: If your getting something like a new car, you might as-well pay a little more and get the best they (In this case Acura) have to offer. That way you also wont be kicking yourself in the nuts and thinking you should have got something better. And B: you intend on taking a road trip(s) so a navi would come in handy when you're lost to states away from home.

a lot of guys on here work hard to get their car and are happy to have what they have. honestly when you work your balls off then someone comes in who only has a permit saying i made a contract with my parents for them to buy me a new car if i passed. thats great and congrats to you because you did it, but what your asking for boggles a lot of our minds, a new 30-40K+ car and u say your aren't rich but why take that much money away from your parents and family, look at the big picture. and you don't even have your license yet. hell i'm only 19 but i work my balls off to the wall for the car i got now.

even though my family is kind of well off i got a 3.0cl as my first car and i appreciated everything about it and what my parents did for me, i loved the car. my parents helped me a bit getting into my infiniti QX4 because i live in the northeast and drive a lot for school and don't want to get stuck plus i got it at an awesome price. now i go to school full time and work full time and gas was killing me and needed something all wheel drive so i bought with my own hard earned money and still have a payment on my is250awd. my dad called to to come look at this car when he was looking for something himself.

plus the fact you came in car talk, why not post in the TL and TSX forums about your decision.

for me i don't care honestly but it does bug me, kids just getting licenses going around saying i got this and i got that and didn't really work for it is annoying to a point. if you work for the car you'll appreciate it more and will be better off in life.

maybe i'm thinking old school, but this was how i was brought up. my grandparents had nothing when they came here and worked hard and now they got whatever they want. my own father worked his ass off to be where he is now and is well accomplished. granted today is different but still the satisfaction of knowing you can do it on your own and can continue to do better is a good feeling and only makes you want it more. part of my motivation is that i saw what my grandparents went throguh and where they are today and what my dad went through to be where he is now. and i'm not afraid of work of any kind, be it a desk job or swinging a chainsaw, you got to do what you got to do.

my had to get that out seeing way to many of these threads.

if your gonna get a new car congrats, but the stats are pretty easy to find.

i wasn't speaking for everyone, but the silver spoon in the mouth type of thing doesn't work with us around here.

this forum has a lot of good and knowledgeable people on here. that can be to your and everyone else's benefit, be it new or old.

you prob should have introduced yourself and tell us some background before you got into it so we knew where you were coming from.

like i said if you work for it, more props to you!

ask yourself do you really need navi. i know it's nice but seriously? i was thinking about it when i got my car and decided against it because i know my state and i don't travel everywhere and i necessarily didn't really need it. ask yourself, does the benefit of the navigation out weigh the cost of it for yourself? me this was no for me so i didn't get it and my payment is cheaper and i put it towards other things.

and do you really need the 3.5liter typeS over the 3.2TL. cost to benefit and need. i wish i had the IS350 but needed the awd so i got the 250. also fuel economy between tsx vs TL and TLS vs TL?

all about need and justification.......but sometimes we want all the toys. so choose wisely.

Just get a regular TL. Great car, good gas mileage, plenty of space, lots to brag about when you are 15

thank you so much, never thought of that before. Iam most likely going to hopefully get a Normal TL with out navi, i know the state of washington very well so i think im going to be fine with out navi, once in a while ill be traveling to cali and i think mapquest directions should already be good enough.when i first joined this forums all i thought was to get the best and brag rights, but you guys told me that its best to choose wisely and something well worth the money and just not for braging rights. as for me im still in highschool in the seattle area, i work for now at my friends shop installing car stereos and sound systems and i love it. so now that i think of it, i think im better off with a normal TL and save up money to do upgrades instead of getting the best of everything plus for my age i dont think its such a good idea to roll around in such a nice car and for me i try not to brag since its not really my think since at my school people have stuff way better than me, so im not trying to have people hateing. so one question i have in mind, the sound system in the TL does it bump good?

I bought a "normal" TL and then picked up a garmin navi system. I fucking love it. God damn best thing I ever bought, never get lost, so damn helpful, and you can switch routes while still driving. Just get the base TL and then add on what you want.

yea, those garmin navi systems are alot less then getting a TL with one eqquiped, the navi system in the TL is like $2,500 option, i rather take that money and buy a portable navi system which is way cheaper but might not offer that much options as the TL navi but heck its saves alot of money. as long as it gets me there then it works.

Get a Corolla for your first car.

Your going to f@$% it up somehow, may as well not f@#$ up a $40,000 car... After a year or two, THEN get the car you want, get some experience in you first.

...and I agree with everything AS3.0CL has said.

you're getting a brand new car. i'm pretty sure that your parents aren't going to struggle just so they can uphold their end of a bet. i'd get the TL-S if i wasn't paying for it.

Think of it this way, you can pay a little more up front and get the “best”. Or you can save a little and use that money to make/upgrade the “normal” just to get to the same level as the “Best” (which you could have bought in the first place). And let’s not forget that some after-market performance parts might/will void your warranty.

TSX is a great car for a young person such as yourself. TL is even better. If you really had half the money to put down on a TL or a TSX, I'd say go with whatever you want. But since you're going to be paying half for it, I'd get the one which will burden you less. You're 15.5 years old and you really want to have monthly payments?

noooo~ stop giving young acuraziners a bad name. This is why I get flamed on for no reason on the 3g boards. Older, arrogant members take one look at my age and assume the worst. Basically undermining my opinion before reading what I wrote ftl

Why don't you tell us what your budget is and we'll go from there. You're all over the board here, but one main thing will likely dictate what you get...you're allowance.

Seriously, the odds are that you will get into an accident in your first car, and probably your second and/or third. So why get such a nice car at such a young age? And after you get a TL you are only going to want equal or better as you get older. You are setting the bar high from the beginning.

Yeah, I agree with most of other members' opinions. You should get a Civic or something for your first car, then get yourself some better vehicles in the near future.

I agree with the "buyer a cheap car so when you wreck it you won't be so pissed" crowd, Statistically speaking 100% of new drivers have an accident in their first two years of driving. You could get lucky and be one of the few that don't (some have way more than one) but I wouldn't bet a 35-40K car on it....of course just my
