New 328i Coupe loaner
New 328i Coupe loaner
My wife took her 328 in for service today and they gave her a 328i coupe as a loaner with 3000 miles on it. I beat it up pretty good since she hasn't really let me play with her new one yet
But what surprises me is that BMW always nickel and dimes you for everything when you buy a new car. This one was fully loaded, sport package, super nice 19 inch sport rims, bi-xenon lights, leather and no freaking power seats.
When she bought her old 2006 new, it had no options too. I guess my point is, the sticker in the glovebox said 43,995 for the sales price. With no power seats? Craziness.
Glad we got a sweet deal on her new one because at least she has power seats. Even though it has shitty runflats and 16 inch rims, we kept the staggered 19's from the old one and I can wait till "she" buys new rear tires so we can throw'em on there and get some photo's going.

yeah dude my sister bought a 2006 Mercedes C280 with 28k on it for like 26,000 I believe, leather erm... that's about it we had Series Satellite radio for a few months but that's it. Leather of course heated seats but no power seats either lol. When I had my TL I would laugh at her all the time because I had power seats and heated seats+ a good BOSE sound system lol. I payed 4,000.00 for my TL with 72k miles, lmao

I guess, but like just today I picked up my cousin then I picked up my friend who sat in the back. The passenger seat was pushed back to far so so push it up she had to press the stupid lever and he had to push her up. You shouldn't even have to deal with that on Mercedes. Whatever though, it don't bother me much either on my RSX because I never move my seat, I get pissed off if someone touched my driving position.
Yeah I guess my point is with as much as it costs and name alone...no power seats? Her first BMW had fake leather and she paid 36 for it. That's back when I was trying to get her to buy a loaded and power everything 3G TL or an Audi like I had.
Nice car, sure snooty biatches think "BMW..." I'm just like dude at least have power seats if you're going as far as throwing every other option on the car but Navi. That's just stupid. Looking on her sticker for her new BMW...it was an extra $2800 for power seats. That's just stupid. Especially when BMW non-power seats have like 5-6 levers on it to adjust the seat. It's a hassle trying to even adjust between drivers.

I can see both sides of the argument - for that kind of money it better have power seats, but at the same time I drive my car 99% of the time and never readjust the seat once initially set, so what's the big deal? It's not like crank window's which is just a pain in the ass. With the new 328's they include the premium leather at no additional charge(only with the sedan), which is cool, but the premium package, which includes a lot of items that are standard with every other vehicle in its class, costs a TON for what it includes. I would much rather see a slightly higher MSRP, and standard HID's and moonroof, etc... A lot of these items should NOT be optional in this class, or cost what they do. Then again I don't think their sales are suffering much. It does seem that the 328 sedan is a much better "value" then the coupe, the option packages are more affordable.

My wife sometimes takes the TL, so she just uses her remote and the seat, mirrors, audio system, climate control, etc. switch over to her settings. Then I click on my remote fob to use the car and everything adjusts to my settings.

However, if I was the only driver, I wouldn't mind non-power seats. I liked the synthetic leather in the 3-series (I tested some 335is, and one had the synthetic), and wouldn't care if it was real leather or not.
It was just shocking to see that I could option a 335i up to $55K last year.
For $40k+ by god I better have power seats. THis is exactly the problem with BMW. Hell, when I was building one the other day it was loaded with sport, premium, and nav yet to get heated seats was still yet another option! How the hell can heated seats not be included in the premium package???

The C Class and the # series does not come with leather standard UNLESS you pay for it.. Its Leatherette "fake leather" unless u pay for it.
When I worked at MB we stocked NO c or E classes with real leather.
All them had fake leather and most people think its real leather but its not.
This was a BIG MB dealer in north jersey and they stocked NO C or E classes with real leater it was a 2-3K option for leather..

Even the 335 coupe which starts at 42K does not have leather standard its leatherette.. Even to have to car with a nice paint is $550 and then to get leather is $1450.. So u are at $45K with a painted leather 335..with no options...
Meh, my boy's $80K C2S doesn't have power seats but it doesn't bother him because he doesn't let anyone else drive it.
I have the adaptive sports seats with memory function. It's not the power function that I care about so much as the adjustable lumber and thigh support but I certainly could live without it

Porsche's adaptive sport seats rock my world. I love the adjustable torso and leg side bolsters, very handy for holding a skinny mofo like myself into the seat.

I totally agree w/ the OP'ers nickel and dime frustrations. It's worse when you're buying a used car because you don't have control of the options. On my 325i: Leather? Check. Power seats? Check. Heated seats? Nope. Homelink? Nice try. Bluetooth? Yeah right.

That was my point. Everything costs on this car. We went without rear folding seats again because it's an option not something that provides tighter cornering. We saw other ones with leatherette and bi-xenon lights along with rear parking sensors. The packages are just all screwed up and designed obviously for people with deep pockets and not just someone who wants to feel like they can afford a really nice car. Her car now has bi-xenon lights, leather and power seats. The power seats are a plus for me due to one reason, the memory function. My wife is 5'4 and I'm 6'1 so to swap between us both driving and adjusting the mirrors is just as hassle without the memory function.
Audi doesn't really screw you over with the options. A package pretty much covers everything in its category. It's a German car too. It's like the do it because they know they can which is whack.

One thing that most people fail to realize is that BMW is a driver's car first and foremost. Some people, me included, would rather have to deal with moving the seat manually a couple of times a year and enjoy lighter car throughout ownership. Leather weighs more, power seats, sunroof, basically any option will weigh more.
Yes it can be a luxury car if you option it out, but the entry price is for a fantastic driving experience.

I'm sure it has been on BMW forums too. I brought it here though because I haven't met a single "brand-snob" in the Acura forums lol. Wife has owned BMW's since '06 and I rarely use those forums for the simple fact that a lot people aren't kwel
And cost matters? A 140K GT3RS can have manual seats, and what you obviously fail to realize, is a lot of P-car owners that track or autoX would rather have less weight and thus elect to do without power seats.
I think the majority of track-oriented enthusiasts would want sunroof delete options as well.
