Need suggestions on beater 5k~7k

Ok, last night my sister was driving home on I-85, and she hits a Murano from behind . THe Murano suffered some damage in the back bumper according to my sister. As of now, we are waiting the result from insurance company, but most likely her 02 corolla will be totaled. So she will need a reliable used car soon. My parents are thinking about a used car in the range of 5000 to 7000, something that will last at least 30,000 miles without any problems. So, please chime in with your expertise in used cars!!

p.s. with the gas price on the uprise, she is also looking for something with descent MPG

Manual 2.2cl? Every time I see what they go for in the paper I get a little more depressed.

So glad I sold my old 2.3 for MORE then what is worth years ago.

For something that will last thirty thousand more miles, I'd suggest to try to stretch the budget a little more and go for an older Corolla or Accord.

I'd go for the usual suspects...

Civic / Accord / Camry

Just a heads up, I got a ride in my friends car yesterday, and he drives a 92-96 Toyota Camry 4cyl and that thing is solid! I was really surprised by how smooth and refined it was. I'm sure it's great on gas mileage as well.

i got a 93 camry xle v6 as a graduation present, all it needed was a new windshield washer tank and battery.
i gave it to my bro to drive, the only problem he had was a clogged cat. oh and btw its at 340,000 miles now w/ original engine and transmission. and it runs smooth, shifts great and hes getting almost 400 miles per 13 gallons of 87.

My '91 Camry was solid too (made in Japan )... and it averaged 23-24 MPG.

Then some beeyotch totaled it.
