Guys, I need some advice.
I just bought a 2008 Scion XB with 79K miles (due to it being a REALLY good deal), it's a one owner, well maintained, I bought it to either keep it or to sell it and make some bucks. The Scion has tinted windows, remote start, HID headlights and has been well taken care of since new by a good friend of mine.
I currently have a 2004 GS430 with 133K miles on it, it's in VERY good condition and doesn't need anything but tires at the time. I've had the GS for a little over a year, and can probably sell it now w/out losing much money on it.
I will be traveling about 600-1000 miles/week for work starting in about 2 months and was planning on keeping the GS. Now I can keep the GS or keep the Scion and I can't decide.
2004 GS430 with V8 and 133K miles - I get about 26MPG on hwy, premium fuel - not great in winter, even with snow tires
OR
2008 Scion XB with 4 cylinder and 79K miles. Will be about 28mpg on hwy, regular fuel and much safer in winter.
I'm almost done paying on the Lexus, so both cars will be paid off and I'm going to be taking my car allowance and spending it on my e30 project to make it nicer or buying a newer Mustang GT convertible to drive on weekends. So whatever is my DD, I don't need it to be anything super nice as I will probably continue having a 3rd car that I actually enjoy driving.
Also, just had our first kid so the GS not being great in winter is starting to become a topic in the family.
We had a Scion XB before, it's much more practical than my Lex, but the Lex is a Lex and it's with a V8.

I thought I did, and then drove the Scion around all day yesterday. The GS is going up for sale this afternoon. I'm going to miss it, but the right decision is to keep the Scion and save up for a down payment on our next house, I'd really like to get out of the condo within the next 2-3 years but need 20% down to avoid paying PMI. I HATE PMI.
Never thought I'd be one to make rational decisions like this. We always drive the Pilot anyways, I drive the GS for work and it's been sitting in the garage for 2 weeks now and hasn't been driven.

Damn, 4 cars?
I dunno, if it were me I would keep the Lexus and sell the Scion for a few extra bucks. It's probably worth more than the Lexus, and I would imagine you're more comfortable in the Lexus for work.

I don't fully understand why you got the Scion and have four cars if you are saving for a house. You get the four cars AFTER you have a house. And yes, I understand you are selling one of them.
I think you just got new car lust now that the Lex is about paid off. Nothing wrong with that, having suffered from that damnable malady myself occasionally.
Just be honest with yourself. If I were saving for a first house, I would keep the Lexus and drive it into the ground and put up with driving it in the snow.....unless by selling the Lex you are using the proceeds to fully pay off the Scion, thus having no car payment.

This puts me in a position where all the cars will be paid off and fairly cheap to maintain (Pilot and XB) and allowing us to save more money. We own the condo now, we will just want something bigger in 2-3 years so I need to plan accordingly. The Lexus will need ball joints, timing belt and water pump and tires within the next 2 years, at the very least. The box will need some tires and that should be pretty much it.
I have a feeling the BMW is going to go too, I really haven't driven it much since my daughter was born.
I would have only had 3 cars, just the Sciom was too good of a deal to pass up which is why I'm I'm this situation.
Anyway, if I can't get what I want for the Lexus, I'll make $ on the Scion and sell it.
^Right. Well, either way, I'll pay off the Lexus if I sell the Scion so all cars will be paid off.
Someone came and test drove the GS today, they had a few other cars to look at but liked it a lot.

i always wanted a GS but they are horrible in the snow and hard to find with low miles. I had 05 xb and it treated me good but the 1.5 liter was weak. The 2008+ xb is a lot better with 2.4liter and more room. I think you better off keeping the xb if you plan on driving that many miles but that's just my 2 cents...
By the way nice GS - looks sharp!

As far as winters in the Gs, it isn't bad. Snow tires+traction control+stability control and you're good to go. If I can last 1-2yrs with the Scion, I'll get a 2008 GS460 next. I've also had a 1999 GS400..
Still have all 4 cars. I've had quite a few people come look at the Lexus but no one has offered what I want for it yet. I think deep down inside I just want to keep both so I won't just give it away.
I know
it bothers me every time I look at this thread. Mods, can we change the title to advice?

not to knock Lexus because they are good cars, but the owners of Lexus vehicles think they deserve special treatment because they drive over priced toyotas
I couldn't care less what you think, but Lexus drivers believe that they are better than everyone and everyone i spoken to about this has agreed.

^depends what you consider old, not everyone in south fla is loaded but the average age of people driving cars in the 40-60k range are in their mid-late 20s. and the average age of lets say s class owners are in their 40-50s.
yea i made a general statment lexus drivers but anyone from south fla will tell the same.
miami is a city of excess in every sense of the word

Been driving the Scion for work for the last 3 weeks and have put 2000 miles in it in that time. I'm happy with my decision. I average 29-30 mpg, it's pretty comfortable and is a pretty good road warrior so far. We'll be spending a lot of miles together.
It's nice to be able to save my car allowance instead of spending it in a car

I was going to say that you should contemplate parting out the Scion and sell your GS and take the money from the sale of BOTH cars and buy yourself something newer like a newer Lexus GS. You'd save money on insurance, have a newer car that's going to cost less to maintain and will offer some nice features!
