Does anyone know what the abs light means in the dashboard. I have a 1996 acura rl, had work done on it but the light continues on the dashboard, also more lights go on and off. I purchased used came without manual

something's wrong with the ABS system. You still have brakes, but the ABS feature wont' work, so take it to a dealer and check it ASAP.

mrdeeno is probably right

What are the other lights coming on?

You can try posting this here too:

Although you'll probably get more of an audience here

tHANK YOU FOR responding. A month ago I brought my car to an Acura dealership for a recall, on the emissions. They told me that I needed new rear brakes my son has been putting brakes in to our cars for the past twelve years, so naturally he did the repair at a fraction of the cost quoted from the dealership. While the dealership had my car, it was checked for other problems. The dash lights do not operate all of the time, I was told that it would be too costly to open, and to just leave it alone. There are times that the oil light goes on, the abs, the check engine, etc. The analysis did not discover these to be the problem. I was told that the check engine light was to dissapear after I drove it for some 10 miles or so. It did go out, but within days it has reappeared, along with the rest of the dash lights.

Also, I forgot to mention that after the recall work was done my car now hesitates at low speed, such as in a parking lot. It never did this before the recall work was done. By the way it only has 86,000 miles on it.

Thanks/battle service dept

Thanks so much, but Now hear this, I am a female who has no male counterpart to help me out with this situation. It is why I don`t trust dealerships, mechanics, and auto salespeople. and now the service rep. I am going to call the service rep as soon as I finish my email to you. I will be brave. Thanks again.

I just called the service dept and have an appt for next Friday. He said that they will put the car back on the computer, and that the hesitation has nothing to do with the recall work. I find it hard to believe, because it NEVER hesitated until the recall work was performed.
Now as far as the basic dash lights they actually worked just fine until after I had the car worked on a year and a half ago. This is what I had done.

oil filter
gasket
plat/plg
f/filter AC
A/filter/AC
Pcv VLV AC

confirmed ABS light is on
confirmed ABS CODE 49 and CODE48 Diagnosed to L/R vehicle speed sensor
Replaced sensor

CPDRO CK reset main light
CPDRO CK Center Console Lights around radio and heater control NO/
replaced r/ outer tie rod

so, now, could any of these services had caused the dash lights to stop performing?
I did bring the car back to that place and they said that they couldnt`t fix it.
Any input on this?

if the ABS light goes on and stays on, then it will be time for a new ABS modulator. Try Perry Acura (online), they have great prices on rebuilt parts which is what I used on my 01 cl-s last winter.
