We should should make a new thread call the Hall of Idiocy, where links to all these waste of posts can be stored for future reference.

OT, but I'll answer your question.

Contrary to popular belief, attorneys are held to a higher standard of ethics than the average joe. That being said, an attorney is not supposed to take a case in which he/she believes would be judicially wasteful, unhelpful to the client, or to charge an unfair amount for work done.

Sure I could take his case and make a quick $3,000; but thinking about it logically what would I do for him? Fill out paper work, tell him to plead guilty, maybe show up to court and plead on his behalf (and even then I'm not even sure if an attorney's appearance would be necessary for a non misdemeanor traffic violation).

Sure, if I were like 50% of the attorneys out there, I could just steal this guys money; but if he can pay $3000 then why not just pay the $1000 fee and suffer for a 1-3 month restricted license?

Believe it or not, but alot of attorneys actually do try to make money by genuinely helping people and shy away from taking cases to earn "just a quick buck." Not to mention, those attorneys who are known to take cases like this one also have their reputation put into question by their peers (other lawyers in the field) and even judges who they appear before. The last thing you need is to have other lawyers question your reputation (since the greatest source of cases is from other lawyers in the area you practice) and to have judges cite you off as a shmuck who cheats their clients or tries to circumvent the law (since you might appear before him in a bench or jury trial).

My opinion, money is great and all - and when I start at my firm as an attorney this december I'll be making a pretty penny for being only 26 - but honestly, in any professional/occupational field, your reputation is much more important.
