Need Advice on a 1994 Legend Coupe 6-speed
Not sure where to post this, so apologies if in the wrong spot, but as a proud owner of a 6 speed CLS, I figured I'd start here.
I have a chance to purchase a 1994 Acura Legend 6-speed. Here are the details:
- 200,000 miles, all stock
- Fair condition, well maintained, one accident (rear) which was repaired professionally (looks decent but I'm no expert)
- Maintained by my buddy's family since new
- Runs well, drives well
- AC doesn't work, probably needs timing belt/water pump
- Driver seat repaired but other seats leather cracked
Always loved these cars, so looking for advice on what to look for on this or to pass this one up. I've heard some of these getting 300k-400k. They are asking $2000 but would probably take close to $1700.

Not to shabby except for the seats.. did the owner pick up a homeless person and he stabbed the seats? (Happened to an AZ member
)
I think its a good buy, as long as she drives good, has no leaks etc.
You can hold off on the A/C hell you live in philly, you'll be turning the heater on soon anyway

Elaborate. O.P.I think i would be a great B car for the right price. i wouldn't pay a penny over $1500 for it. I wonder how the drive's seat would of looked like if it didn't get replaced.
Also you said it was burning a bit of oil but no leak. I previously had a 91 that did the same thing. It had burnt oil rings, also be careful of the infamous headgasket. I always wanted a type II in a 6 speed.
Honestly, that's like a $1000 car at most.
If a seminal fluid/vomit/blood infested 190E 2.6 is worth $500 then that car is probably twice as much.
But seriously, there's a lot of work to put into that car to make it presentable. Why not just wait for a better example that costs a little more?

That's kinda where my head is at now. I currently have an '03 CL-S 6-speed which is basically the Legend reincarnated. Instead of spending the money on the legend, why not put it into my car --- either way, I probably won"t get the money I put in out of either but have a better shot with my current car.

Looks like a nice L model in Sherwood Green Metallic. Biggest thing on these cars as someone may have mentioned is to look out for cooling system maintenance. It should've had a couple timing belts by now, too. When well cared for, these cars are capable long-haulers. I'm at 493,700 on an original engine, transmission, and clutch on my 1994 LS.
Given your situation, though, I'd say if you like your CL better just put the money into it rather than picking up a second car that at 200k miles with an unknown history, may just end up being a money pit. I love the Legend but I too have been burned by a few "project" cars along the way. Good luck!
Some one mentioned the head gasket. When mine was slowly dying I read ALOT about what to look for in these cars, and everyone said head gasket. Drive it hard for 20 min at highway speed, 65+. Watch the temperature. It should not go over half. Really it should not go over 40%, but mine ran at 50% okay. I replaced the thermostat at 190k, and it ran a little cooler, that is a simple $12 fix though. My valve cover gaskets leaked, and if it were a little less, it would seem to only "burn" oil and not leak. However that progressed quickly after it started. Check the struts b/c one of mine completely blew at 150k. Check the idle speed b/c it may need an adjustment. Mine would pulse between 500-1000 rpm at cold idle.
I believe mine was worth $2k if it ran immaculately. I felt that it needed $1k worth of work to get it there so I sold it for $1k. I could have sold it to Mexico for $1.5k probably, but I was happy to have it off my street and not feel guilty for ripping someone off. Add up all repairs you think you can find. Most of the problems can probably be fixed for $1k or less except for the head gasket. That's the biggest concern I believe.
