I would look into getting a used tire that is obviously in good condition. Gives you the piece of mind without costing too much. Discount tire sells them for $40-50 bucks, well worth it to me.

^ No point, patch/plug in that tire will never leak if done by a pro tire shop.

thanks guys. took it to tire kingdom -- they only did plugs. found a goodyear place that demounted, patched, and plugged. gave me enough confidence to hand over the car to my GF (shes going to be 3 days engaged, driving 1,300 with my future father in law) so if that wheel pops, i wont be off to a very good start!

$37 w/ tax...15 minutes. not bad.

and what the hell happened to this thread?

Tire kingdom? They always patch not plug. All the ones I went to did at least. They always take the tire off & patch it from inside. Said it was corp policy.
