hmm..maybe I should consider a 250 Ninja also. I start the MSF next week.
I was looking at potential bikes and I was leaning torwards the Honda CBR600. Everyone says it's an excellent starter bike. The problem with it is the insurance is almost half the price of the bike for a year (and it's the bare minimum price).
In October, this bike will be available for me to buy (it's under bankruptcy protection right now and can't be released until then). This bike only has 1000 miles on it and in perfect condition. The only reason he needs to sell it is because he needs the money. Problem...insurance again is freaking expensive on it, quoted $3025 every six months (21th Century), and this is the bare minimum. But he's going to sell it at a seriously discounted rate and so that's why I want to consider it.

When I say bare minimum, I mean what CA requires and the financial institution giving me the loan. I believe it's at 15K/30K plus comprehensive and collision.

wow you are being quoted that much for a zx-7r? Do you have a bad driving record? Cus I am paying half that for a year and I have a '04 R1. And actually thats on because of the city I live in, if I lived in a safer city it would be $900 for the year full coverage.
My friend just got the exact same bike, new for 3K, insurance is 400 every 6 months. It is still pretty peppy, he said it makes it to 60 in 5(I haven't bothered to check). After seeing it I was seriously considering getting a used 500 but realized in NE, it is too damn cold half the time, plus I really do need a truck. Maybe some day...

1) High performance bike
2) When I get my liscense, I will have had it for less than 3 years.
3) When people have accidents in the bike, it's usually pretty bad according to their records.
I should of mentioned that bare minimum of full coverage as required by law and insurance companies. If it was just liability, it would only be $600 every six months.

I would shop around if that is the case. I just got my license (couple days ago) after riding around on my permit for close to 3yr so that didnt help my quote at all, in addition to my bike being a newer 1000cc costing much more than a 600cc. Hopefully you can find something cheaper cus it appears that you are getting ripped off, however it could be the area that you live in.
Okay. You really should try McGraw....i paid $450 for 1 year for my first year of liability insurance. I had bought the bike outright so I didnt need full collision. Your finance co. wants you to have full coverage to cover the costs of a claim on your motorcycle. Can you afford to pay off the bike? If so, opt for liability...and if you crash...dont make a claim...usually bikes that crash, do it solo....and the reason why full coverage is so high...scratch up those fairings...and you pretty much totalled the bike.

Carmichael is a city within Sacramento, CA county and yeah it seems insurance is higher in this city for automobile insurance. I move up the road one block and my insurance goes down $200 every six months. My TSX insurance just jumped another $200 every six months, even with a clean record. I asked why and they replied it's based on a few things:
1) Number of claims in your area (or zip code)
2) Type of vehicles in your area (high priced vehicles, or SUVs)
3) Crime rate and number of police calls
and a couple of other things...then again, the rep could be bullshitin' me.
But honestly this price I pay for my TSX is the lowest out there with a decent insurance company, 21th Century. Don't even ask how much Farmers, State Farm, Progressive, Allied, Geico, AAA, and American Liberty Mutual wants for insurance...at times it's almost double what I pay now.
I will look at McGraw, are they even in California?

It depends though on how much money I have at the time before I consider straight cash. I'd rather have money in the bank for a rainy day, if you know what I mean.

I had full coverage, with a $300 deductible for about $450 a year. I was very satisfied with their service, especially when I had to make a claim on the bike. As such, I always recommend them to friends.
Well I decided instead to go with a 250R. I bought it last weekend, but finally started to ride around this weekend. I gotta say the bike is damn slow and everyone says it gets better power in the upper range, but it's not as slow as the Honda Rebel they had at the MSF course. Unfortunately, the bike is brand new so I have to keep it under 4000 RPMS for the first 500 miles. I sat on a R1 and I love the way it feels on me. I think my next bike might be the R6 though. The CBR didn't feel right.
Anyway, I got temporary insurance from my current insurance but they quoted me for $250 every six months, and yet I recieved the actual package today and it states $383 for six months. Do you have a contact number for McGraw as it seems the website is for brokers.
Oh yeah and the bike (my sister stole my good camera so this is from a cell phone camera):

It turns out McGraw was $71 more expensive that my current policy on exact same terms. I guess I'm keeping my current one.
