My car rocks in the snow!!

Yesterday was the first true test of awd on my 530xi (snow tire shod) when we had near zero visibility, 12-18" of snow in less than 8 hours; unplowed roads w/ ice underneath as it had rained first; and traffic creepin' along. This car goes, stops and stays where you intend it to w/ no surprises. That combined w/ heated seats and steering wheel, I'm good to go!

I don't get it....I can understand the car doing well in snow but once the snow gets to a certain height any car is pretty much useless. Thats when you bust out the SUV! I remember the last HUGE snow storm taking out the ML w/ AMG package and man that thing tore through the snow like it was nobodys business. Same with the Range Rover

Some of us don't have that option. I can pretty much get through most of it with my Pathfinder. But I would rather drive a sedan if I had the choice. IMO if I can't get through it with a car, then I'm better off staying home.

Exactly, bust out the pathfinder. I just find it funny how companies market AWD cars (except Subaru) to go through any weather possible, but you aint goin anywhere if the snow is up to your bumper, which isn't a lot on some cars.

Yea, its too bad I dont have the Range Rover anymore. I can imagine rolling right through this winter. My new car on the other hand, will stay in the garage whenever snow falls. So now I just use my mother's X3 or get in a friend's car whenever we do get some snow.

This makes me laugh. Anyone that has lived in a place where it really snows knows that the most accidents and stranded vehicles you see on the side of the road in a snow storm are usually SUVs because their drivers have your mentality and think they can drive them like there's no snow on the road. I would much much rather be in an AWD car and know my limits than in an SUV and think the SUVs going to drive itself.

Anyway, nice to hear the 530xi drives so nice in the snow. I always liked the 330xis, too.

Yes because that AMG package really helps you navigate through the white fluffy stuff...

Nice, when the weather turns bad, keep YOUR car safe in the garage and let your friends risk their cars hauling you around

They choose to drive, I don't force them to. We've had one day of snow so far around here, and I was actually hauling their asses around in the X3. I just don't want my car to see snow.

I doubt my dad will let me take his new 535xi out if it snows this year, but i bet it's just as good. He'll probably just drive my tsx if it snows anyway and waste the awd.
and just so this thread isn't worthless,

Is his tag really 00000CA? Or is that a vanity plate?

I don't understand the blurring out thing. Thousands of people see the license plate on the street every day.

Not that we could do much with that tag anyway. It's not like I have a fat friend living in his mom's basement with the skills to hack into the DMV database so I can go stalk the person.

Exactly, alot of people think AWD helps you stop better. Snow tires do, but AWD does not. Accelerating and turning is a different story though.

Well I guess it's a habit with me now
Lots of people want them blurred though because if they post their mods all over the internet, they dont want people tracking their car and stealing them. The random people that pass by every day don't know whats inside exactly.

But anyways, my mom got a new subaru forester over the summer and I have a feeling she's gonna complain about the AWD when she tries to stop later than normal in snow.

Is there something special about BMW's Xdrive? It has its own name, but how is the AWD system different?

You live in MD and don't understand? Imagine someone is selling an Integra on craigslist (just to make it more obvious) Then they post ALL their mods....

JDM front end
full ITR interior, Recaros, etc.
K20R swap
full Toda exhaust
Mugen coilovers
etc.

Then they post a bunch of pictures of their car, including the license plate. Then they put, located in the ..... area. That guy is asking for it. Thieves are just gonna say, "look out for a car with xxxxxxx" license plate, car is loaded.

Call me paranoid but I don't think its a coincidence when people tell their stories about a recent swap, and 2 days later their car is gone...

Sounds like you knew someone who went through the horrible experience with a list like that...

I bought this car specifically for hauling back and forth to the ski resort w/ my nieces/nephews/friends w/ gear, lunch, mandatory case of beer, etc. I have a big aversion to driving a sport ute. I don't care if it's a Range Rover or X5, still don't want one. I'd venture to bet that my car will go through some pretty deep snow, if it's up to the bumper, I'm not driving anywhere anyways!
