Funny enough I've been toying with picking one of these up as a weekend toy instead of a Boxster so I can get a new motorcycle as well.
From what I've read they are pretty sweet cars and everyone who owns one loves it.

I think the miata is very underrated. Comes off kinda as a chick car, but I don't think it gets much better for the money. I played w/ the hardtop a when it was first annouced at a car show, and it was very fast. Too bad the hardtop does add quite a bit to the pricetag.
You looking to buy a used one or a new one ??
I did some research awhile back on these and some of the older ones do have issues, but those issues are pretty well documented on the web...

Our second car is a 10th Anniversary Edition Miata with the 6-speed and LSD. It is, without question, one of the funnest cars to drive. It is not that quick, but the light weight combined with a well-tuned suspension makes it THE choice for any excursions during the warmer months.
For some reason i cant really grasp that concept of somthing being fun to drive and not fast because i have never driven a car that was not fast but fun to drive, i have drivin fast cars that are fun
What could it be related to a go cart?

The MX-5 is not a "fast" car now, but it's as quick as a TSX 6-speed manual: mid-7s 0-60. That's about the same 0-60 as stock musclecars from the '60s and '70s with the middle engine options (350, 351-C, 383, 396 ci V8s). The MX-5 is quick compared to most cars without 260hp+ V-6s, but is not "fast" like a V-6 Camry, TL, G35, Mustang GT or M3. OTOH, those "fast" cars won't have the same sensation of speed or immediate tactile responses, either-- the MX-5 driver is less isolated from the road.
If I could get a 2-seater or convertible, the MX-5 and S2000 are the only ones I would consider for less than $60K- not the 350Z, not the Mustang, not the GM products, not German convertibles. Oh, and if you are considering an automatic transmission MX-5, DON'T!

There's an old truism, "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow," probably from people who drove old Alfas, MGs and Fiats that had 0-60s in the 12-second range compared to the "musclecars" and "sports cars" that had mid-8 second 0-60s.

to everything he said. If you enjoy the car-driver connection, the MX5 is just a giant bag of fun. The exhaust note's right there, no throttle lag, clutch engagement feels exactly as it should, no slop in the shifter. I felt more at home in it than my own car (RSX-S).The S2000 is more powerful and has the same sense of immediacy as the MX5, but is a bit less liveable -- it's twitchier to drive, has a tighter cockpit and seats, and is a bit jerky to drive slowly.

It's kinda like what Jay Leno said about the Honda S600.... something to the effect of it being more fun to drive a slow car quickly than driving a fast car quickly.

Miatas are numerous in SCCA- and club-racing; I think they have their own road racing classes with the SCCA.

One advantage for me personally of a MX-5 over an S2000 is I can actually fit some what comfortably in a MX-5. I have no shot in a S2000.
