well they are both very different some of the lexus's might be better but then some mercedes are better then lexus, but for suvs i would choose the Mercedes G500, for seden deff the mercedes s500 but then the lexus 430 is excellent also and for the sport car for affordable is the is300.....so these cars are very close in ranking but when it comes to part repair lexus is easier to replace for some reason

Since I'm driving a new Lexus I guess that answers the desirability question for me. At each price point and for each vehicle Lexus gives more value for the buck than Mercedes. As an ex-BMW owner I have learned not to pay for a hood ornament. Throw in the far better Lexus reliability and it was a no-brainer.

Lexus over M-B anyday.

M-B of course has more prestige and heritage.

If I were to choose a car... Lexus > MB

Unless I were to lease...then I might decide to go with MB... cause after the lease/warranty is up, I don't want to pay for repairs...

Mercedes-Benz will always be a more prestigious nameplate then Lexus. Nothing from Lexus comes close to the SLR, S55/600's, SL55/600/65's, CL55/600/65 etc.

Mercedes has always been a more prestigious car. However recently it seems as though their build quality is slowly going down. A number of people I know have benzs and they always gripe about maintenance and how they had to have their S classes towed in. Of course when you look at any of their AMG's they are great but their realiability really sucks, they tend to have a number of problems with them. Now Im sure alot of people would disagree with my statements but that is my opinion and the opinions of the people I know that have Mercedes.

Lexus on the other hand I think are great cars. Sure they dont have any high performance cars, but they are unveiling something at detroit. From what I hear the LF-A is going to be quite the machine.

I may be biased towards lexus since my family does have 2 of them and I am the only acura (which will soon change). We have never had any problems with either cars and they are both really great fun to drive!

i think the lexus does.... thats just me with the above post, i agree that lexus has nothing 2 match mercedes with some models, but considering the s series, its a very common car; its resale value is very low just my

Mercedes and Lexus are overpriced yuppy cars. But to answer your question: you would be the biggest most prestigous yuppy on the block with a Mercedes. But only with a $50,000+ Mercedes, anything less than that makes you a wanna be yuppy and you don't want that.

I can't find any reason to pay so much extra money just for the cars manufacturer. Flame on!

Lexus cars are better. But they don't have that image of the "MUST HAVE" dream car. Most of their cars still look like grandpa cars.

It's funny. I think in a way it has more to do with demographics than anything.

My parents are blue-blooded ballers. My dad would never own a Lexus, even though one of his younger partners has an LS430 that he thinks has more gadgets and neater stuff than his own S430. He also bought a Cayenne instead of the LX470 even though he complains it doesn't have enough room.

Lastly, he couldn't believe how nice my car was for the money, just couldn't believe I didn't buy a Bimmer or baby Benz...He and most of his older friends just don't get it, and more importantly, with that kind of money, they don't care about reliability when they all get new cars every two or three years anyway...

Well, that’s the old demographics for you. Image is everything, but what’s underneath don’t count. Part for part, the Acura is far better quality then the BMW’s or Benz’s.

I see this in the Asian community then anywhere else. If you don't drive a AUDI, BMW or BENZ, then you’re a nobody.

In the old man's world, Porsche or Benz only. There are a few with third cars being Escalades (for the room), but that's about it...

I don't have the money to spend $60k on a car and then worry about repairing shi+ when it breaks. If I spend $60k, I want a Lexus so I won't have to really worry for 5 or 6 years and a couple hundred kmiles...

Reliability is not really an issue if you keep a car for two years and are spending $60,000+ .If reliability was an issue for the wealthy, Range Rovers and Jags would not be selling.

Agreed. Lexus needs more appealing cars, sporty with power. Once they have that I think they'll be on top of everything and everyone.

if you want power/performance and awesome handling go with the AMG line of Benz.
The E55 will run with the 2006 M5(which is no grandma's car)
Lexus is well built and great service.

now I heard in some car magazine Lexus is coming out with a performance line much like AMG
it will be called "GT" so like the IS300 GT
or LS430 GT

If Toyota/Lexus can do an in house tuner shop that's practical(like AMG)(not like the joke of Acura's "A-SPEC") then I think Lexus will have the leg up on everyone because they got service, reliablity, and well built cars down.

It will run with it in a straight line and thats about it. Having to say a 500hp V10 car with a 7 speed SMG tranny is "no grandma's car" is kinda scary don't you think?

RELIABILITY: Mercedes (Based off of my own and other family members cars. 9 Benzs vs 1 lexus (SC430) which had major electrical problems. Hard for me to be open here because after 9 Benzs, the only one we ever had problems with was a 1994 E320 which was recalled by MB and we were given a brand new one as a replacement)

SUPPORT COSTS: Lexus (Not really close at all. Lexus has cheaper repair costs and I think most of the line has better MPG ratings, etc.)

BRAND IMAGE: Mercedes (Not even close...including or not including AMG models. It mainly has to do with reputation over the years)

PEFORMANCE: Mercedes (Excluding AMG's, lexus wins in some areas and MB wins in some areas)

LUXURY/COMFORT: Lexus (Depending on the model, but few automobiles are as comfortable to drive as an LS430)

OVERALL: Mercedes (Lexus has many things going for it and will if the performance line comes out a winner. They do so many things right with each car that they make and that is why they are successful. BUT, I am a little biased towards this topic. If AMG models were excluded, then this would be very close because Lexus matches up so well in all areas)
