McFly VS. Glenn Hyundai READ AND SUPPORT

I dont know if many of you have heard of this, but more people deserve to know.

http://www.gencoupe.com/general-disc...ing-honor.html

Chime in on your thoughts... maybe even some hate mail towards glenn hyundai (http://www.glennhyundai.com/), who seems to be your classic case of a greedy stealership. The dealership even tried to call the man a lunatic if he thought they were going to give up the car for that price.

That's unfortunate. The guy won the auction fair and square.

Sucks for McFly. I read about this earlier last week. Supposedly, Glenn Hyundai and McFly had reached an agreement, but now it looks like Glenn Hyundai breached that agreement and backed out again.

Hope the lawyer McFly hired can help his situation.

If I lived in Lexington, KY, I'd visit the dealership, pretend I was going to buy a Genesis or whatever, proceed to do all the paperwork, and then right before I have to sign anything, tell them that I changed my mind just like they did to McFly.

This is the exact same B.S. that happened to the guy who bought the M3 on eBay. He had to get a lawyer involved too. In the end, he got his M3.

I want to get in before this gets out of hand. I am on Hyundai-Forums as well and learned a few days ago that the dealer has relented and McFly is going to Kentucky to get his Genesis Coupe. He has asked everybody who has supported them to back down.

Took me like an hour to read all the posts, and wow I feel bad for him. I would demand a fucking highest model they had and not settle for a 2.0 either.

Oh, no he's not getting the Genesis.

As of this past Sunday (and the real official thread):

UPDATE, SATURDAY 1/23/10. I am putting all posts of mine back up. Reason being is that time is of the essence, and I cannot travel, due to the fact that my wife is due to have our unborn daughter at any time. Doctor says anytime between now and 2 weeks (the due date). All my posts stay unless an agreement is finalized.
If you do some reading, you'll see that they backed out of the agreement and McFly had to get a lawyer involved.

I read a good portion of this. I hope McFly gets his car and the asshat dealer gets shut down. There were no misunderstandings, other than McFly trying to get a deal he justifiably is entitled to.

The assholes at Glenn Hyundai get this

Did anyone read that people are canceling their Hyundai orders because of this (and not at Glenn either). At least 3 I counted, so that's easily $60K of business out of Hyndai's coffers, and they are being somewhat complicit in this by not getting on one of their licensed franchises.

You'll get support here McFly. Beat their ass....

I'm all for him getting what he deserves. I know it would piss me off if I were him.

However, at some point I think he needs to cut his losses.

This is the one gripe I have with eBay, soft rules on this kind of thing. A contract is a contract. It's unf*cking real that the dealership is getting away with this (so far at least).

At this point I wouldn't trust the car if the dealership conceded. Dealerships are often sneaky bastards and don't like playing by the rules, if they give in I would bet they will have damaged the car prior to delivery.

Sucks for McFly, but if it were me I would make it simple, sell me the car I bid for at the price I offered or I will leave negative feedback for your dealership on eBay and spread the word, i.e. forums, contact local Newspapers and News Stations, this is the sort of thing that can bring some hugely negative publicity far outweighing the loss from the single car, not to mention the perception the public will have for good will if they had honored it. At this point I feel it's been too long and the dealership is really going to pay in the long run, this will become much larger then a small loss on a single car. Short sidedness is all too common at dealership.

I'm a pretty stubborn, buuuuuuut....

CLIFFNOTES: The dealership sucks fo sho, but this guy is being stupid and needs to know when to walk away from something. Take care of your family instead.

Long Rant Starts Here....

I would have left this alone after the first jerkoff at the dealership tried to blow him off. Right there it should be apparent that they are going to be difficult and it certainly doesn't help that they are in ANOTHER state.

And I don't believe this guy is out as much money ($2000-3000) as he says. Who takes off a week's worth of work to bid on a car? One or two days, maybe... to get with a bank and make arrangements. Also, how much time has he spent contacting back and forth between Hyundai Corporate, the dealership, newspapers, forums, etc.??

Doesn't he have a baby on the way? Personally, I'd be focusing my energy on the wife and kid... rather than burning away the hours on some POS dealership and a sour deal. The Genesis is cool and all, but I think his priorities are completely screwed up.

I DO understand that he won the bid fair and square... but it's ebay. It didn't work out. In the end, he still wants to give his hard-earned money to these guys. Realistically, he should be getting something that is family oriented... NOT a sporty coupe that he plans on modding. Sorry for the rant.

I agree. Instead of doing the right thing in the first place, they've decided to play hardball, and that's going to hurt them much more in the long run than if they'd just done the right thing on day one. It's going to give both the dealership and Hyundai bad publicity.

E-mail I sent to a local news station (newstip@wkyt.com):

To whom it may concern,
I am an avid car enthusiast (alias gatrhumpy from Acurazine.com). I am absolutely outraged over an incident that happened at one of the local Hyundai dealers.

A Hyundai buyer named McFly from gencoupe.com won and legally bought a 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe 2.0T on ebay. Here is the thread on it:

http://www.gencoupe.com/general-disc...ing-honor.html

Here is the eBay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...viZ1&viewitem=

The man legally BOUGHT this car, but the dealer refused to let the gentleman buy the car at such a great price. This is an absolute outrage, and the dealer should have their dealership license revoked. The dealer (Glenn Hyundai) had a legally binding contract and refused to sell the car at the $16,125.00 winning price. I'm spreading the word so other people can see what kind of dealership this really is!

This is a great example of how public pressure and image will work faster and more effectively then our legal system. People are quick to scream sue, and they had a contract, but in the real world it's not that simple. First of all contracts are only as good as the people who sign/agree to them, and as we all know the world is full of less then honest people. Secondly, it would easily cost $10k+ in legal fees just to get this to court, which is why companies know they can push the limits with issues like this. Yes there is a chance you would recoup the legal expenses, roll them into the lawsuit, but some judges may not allow it and there is always the chance you could lose and be forced to incur the other parties legal expenses. Most Americans have little to no real experience with the legal system they just think you can sue anyone at any time and you won't pay unless you win, HA! That's not to mention it would probably take 6-9 months to get something like this in front of a judge, at which point you are guaranteed the car in question is gone.

Well done gatrhumpy! That's what should have happened after the first or second exchange with the dealership. In a situation like this working outside the legal system will be faster, more cost effective and probably yield a better result.

At this point it isn't even about the money anymore. Its about ratting out these bad dealerships and to punish them for their bad behaviors. I mean, is losing $1000-3000 worth the amount of negative publicity they are getting. This is spreading like wildfire online and no amount of firefighters is going to put it down until it burns completely. metaphorically of course.

They sell returns as OEM. Which sucks in and of itself, but they don't even bother checking them.

on the gencoupe forum Mcfly closed the thread and said that it was now officially resolved. I really wish he would spill the details on what exactly went down. Did he get the car for the right price? Did they give him cash for his troubles?

He also says for people to stop emailing/calling Glenn Hyundai about the matter... but in my opinion, he should just let people be... because they already did the wrong-doing, so they should still get punished for it until the public thinks they've had enough.

I bet it was for legal reasons he didn't give details. And telling people to stop badgering the dealer is assumed to be in their agreement.
