MB or BMW: Who makes the better engine?
More specifically, the current model BMW I6 (2.5 or 3.0L) vs. the current MB V6 (2.6 or 3.2). All things considered, who makes the better engine?
There's an argument going on between people I know, and objective opinions needed, that's why I posted here. Thanks guys.

The M3 uses a BMW I6. 3.2L, and it's N/A. MB doesn't have anything to compete with it, not because they can't but cause they're not much looking into that kinda thing. Atleast not N/A. The C32 AMG engine is quite a feat but it only makes ~30hp more than the M3 engine while using FI. Gobs more torque, though. (332 vs. 262)
I think Mercedes makes better engines if you're talking about the no holds barred engines. Proof: Pagani Zonda, SL65. The M5 V10 should be cool but again, the torque will likely not be up to par with its HP rating. From a reliability standpoint, MB wins again, and in the smoothness category, the J32 wins. And yes, I know it wasn't competing.
Reference: My dad has an S500, and cousin has an M3. Few E320s in the family.

Burn some dust here
I am a Mercedes homer now that I own one, but I will say that the BMW makes the better engine all day long. BMW 6's are fantastic and honestly, MB's 3.2 doesnt even compare to the BMW 3.2/3.0. The 330i blows the C320 away in my opinion but the gap narrows a little with the C32 vs. M3, but the M3's engine is still better.
BUT, MB V8's eats the BMW's lunch all damn day.

i would say that MB engines are much more refined
i really cant stand the sound of the m3 when its idling, sounds like its about to die! the BMW v8 sounds like a monster when you start her up too, almost like a truck!
MBs are quiet and smooth...

bmw no questiom, they built the engine in the mclaren f1
not only that but i believe mercedes highest output from a n/a engine was in the 5.5 liter making 350ish, bmw pushes 400 hp through a n/a 5.0 liter
the 55 and 600 benz models all use FI so n/a vs n/a i would have to go with bimmer
cant wait for the new m5 with the high reving v-10
