Maaco Painting
Maaco Painting
I have a 2002 Mustang GT. It has really bad paint fade but I just got $500. I'm getting wheels powdercoated gloss black for $200. I was wondering if Maaco flat black would be decent? I work at a custom BIKE paint shop so I know how to prep my vehicle. But they don't have time to get my car in the booth. Everyone talks about Maaco not staying glossy long enough and all that, but I'm not wanting gloss. I want my car flat black, gloss black stripes (having my painter do that part) and wheels gloss black. Is Maaco a decent choice if not wanting glossy colors?
I used MAACO once and that was the final time. My father had a 96 Acura Legend and he freakin' loved that car. As a Father's Day gift I revamped the car spending around 8-10K. New rims, new sound system, new leather, new paint with flakes, etc... Upon my first inspection the paint had air bubbles all over the car, it had to be stripped and done again. Second inspection same thing and this time the brand new rims were stained with some clear chemical that dulled the rims...I spent around 2K for the paint job, but I got my refund. Stay away from MAACO.
Maaco, Service King, etc all are franchises. Just because one Maaco is terrible, doesn't mean all of them are. Most shops will gladly show you their shop and their work because they want your business.
I'd spend $100 on Plastidip to get an easy cheap matte black finish on your car. Then spend $498 on cocaine, assuming of course you are indeed a porn star by that user name, and finally $2 on a bag of Skittles...because I fucking love Skittles.

It won't be perfect. You can't expect much for $500, but if you can choose good paint and get several coats, it won't be that bad. Especially if you take the time to prep it properly.
Even a monkey could do single stage - but I don't know how a satin clearcoat will hold up considering the cost. But don't skip out on the clear, you'll regret it.

I don't know first hand about Maaco but this doesn't make sense, you are paying $200 for powder coating wheels and $500 for painting the whole car? I say check out dip my car and do it yourself but that's just me.
