maaco body services

anyone use them?

I have been getting estimates for painting my front bumper, which are around the 350 ball-park.

I called maaco and they gave me an estimate for 160.

What gives?

160 barely seems like enough to cover the materials.

I've used macco on some old cars that really arent worth much, but they do horrible prep work, People usually reccomend you prep it yourself then have them sray it, Anywho they don't have the best reputation.

actually, I am getting a new bumper cover which I want painted. So there is no prep work required, all they have to do is primer/base/clear. Seems like a simple job. And then there is the paint matching. I have the RRP TL.

I'm interested in this as well- On my old DSM forums a lot of people had pretty good work done by them

i can vouch for these guys. i gave my paint code, the fender came as a perfect match. i don't know if they used a clearcoat, but i am sure you can ask.

i didnt see a bumper cover there but they might be able to get one.

the fender for the accord matched perfectly and no runs in the paint and no flaws

they are known for lack of quality but thats only if you choose their cheaper packages. my old boss got his daughter's jetta repainted in Honda Nighthawk Black Pearl and fixed all the dings and it turned out great for $1200

maaco licks ass...cheap paint. chips easily, shitty people who do half-assed jobs.

When I was in college and had an old bimmer (which had flaking paint) Some putz hit me in a parking.

Took my car to those asshats to get the repairs done and the whole car repainted...looked better year...shitty job...yeah....shitty paint....yeah...and they were assholes after the fact to boot.

I only deal with highly reputable body shops now.

There are none lol. I think between me and my friends, we have been to every body shop around us, and everybody sucks. My car now goes to Summit Truck-they don't do cars, but have been friends of the family for like 65 years. They have always taken care of the company's trucks, and have taken care of the cars as well. They do phenomnal work but don't do cars.

DONT CHEAP OUT ON PAINT!

I did...twice. And I finally smarted up and paid for quality work. Price your paint code out at a shop and see how much a pint will run. You can even ask how much the painter will need and just buy it for them.

Now you know it will match.

Maaco is to paint what the Turbonator is to hp.

Or for you Mensa members: M is to P what T T is to HP

What about using Maaco right before selling/trading in a car? Would the cheap paint job be noticed?

I had to replace my hood on a Civic years ago at a Maaco. The paint chipped so easily and cracked after a few years. Worst paint job ever.

maaco is pretty shitty. they will cut corners where ever possible IE. they will leave overspray on your black rubber molding and the such. not a quality idea

Ok, let's say you guys have a 95 Honda civic that you're trying to sell and try to get a little bit more for it, would you use maaco?

might as well get some pray pain and do it yourself. When people see your car they will say, "Uh Oh, He Got Maaco.

Probably not if traded into a dealership.

Professional car appraisers know their shit.

Went with a friend when she traded in her Civic for a Saturn, and the appraiser there actually had us come out and showed us how he did it. He could tell she had her fender repainted (and approx. how long ago) just by running his finger across the tape line under the hood.

wow, that's crazy! You might be able to get it done for free at an autobody school if you just supply the paint. I have heard stories where some of the instructors do most of the work and the job was pretty good. You have to know where to go for a decent school job.
