Looking at getting a new(wer) car.

My 98 CL with less than 80k on it is on its last leg. Well, its on my last leg anyways. It is in the shop right now, again, because Cyclinder 4 is losing pressure. I just had the head resurfaced because it had somehow warped...

Anywho. I am done with the car and looking for something else. Now I don't want to spend more than like 18k. I had a 2008 Pontiac G6 for about a week. I really enjoyed the car. But I still can not get over the stigma that GM has had in the passed. I know they are getting better. I know. I have found many 2008 G6's in the area for the price I am looking for. But I have also found this
http://www.carmax.com/enUS/view-car/...a-a80b6a98a77b
It has more miles on it than I wish it would have. It is not easy finding a Honda in my price range with less than 70k miles on it. But I am having a hard time kicking my Hondas to the curb. Had a great track record with them up until this last one.

There are a few things that I don't like about both cars, but they are just minor things. But I do like the G6 feeling a little bit "sportier" than the accord. But I also LOVE the way this body style accord looks with a very mild drop and some nicer rims.

These are really the 2 cars that I have narrowed it down to.

What do you guys think?

I'm not a fan of that gen. Accord, but if you get that, you know you have the reliability of the Honda name behind the car. That's not to say that GM vehicles aren't going to last a long time too cause we have had 3 GM vehicles and they have all run fantastically, but, just sayin

Well im sure there are private party sellers as well that you may want to give a look at. I would get an EX-L if i were you to make it a bit more luxurious. Or you could get a used 3rd gen TL since it would be in the price range. Are you looking for a sedan or coupe?

between the two, i prefer the accord.

keep looking around. i find it hard to believe that there aren't low to decent mile accords in your price range.

I like the looks of the 08 G6 better than that particular generation Accord. I would think the reliability on the Accord would be great, but the appeal of a new or almost new car would win. Also the 08 G6 would have a warranty.

I would get the Accord. There are many of those so shop around for the best one for the money.

That generation accord coupe is availible for 18K or less with 35K~50K miles in both A/T and M/T, so you can definitely find what you're looking for, and that is the Ex-V6 trim not just the four cylinder version.

I was looking into an accord but they do not offer the sport shift so I am no longer interested.

Get the Accord. The G6 might be a fine car but the resale market just sucks.

Too many rentals at the auction.

^Like he said I'd be more concerned with the resale value instead of these "stigmas" you speak of.

Its all a matter of taste but I prefer the 7G AV6 coupe over the G6 in terms of exterior and interior. I've never driven a car with the turbocharged Ecotec but it doesn't really sound like you're planning to mod it engine-wise anyway so I'd prefer the V6 of the Accord. The G6 interior is a huge improvement over the Grand Am but I still prefer the Accord interior.

Something interesting I found out lately though is that the next G6 is going to be RWD.

That is what has made this decision so hard. Warranty over no warranty. I mean, I could always get the extended warranty, but it is still not going to last as long.

I think my biggest hangup on the G6 is the fact that they dont hold resale for crap. And I know I am going to have it for awhile.

I found an 02 TL Type S for the same price as the accord and the TL has 49k miles on it. Which is nothing at all. It looks to be in real good condition, but its an 02. I just dont know how long it would be until stuff started breaking.

I'd look at getting a Mazda6 or a Mazdaspeed6. You can get a newer, more fun to drive one at the same price as an older Accord.

As much as I liked the 99-03 TLs (still my fav body style esp the 02-03) I'd highly recommend against it unless you like tranny woes. I'd prefer a V6 Accord coupe, get it in 6MT. If you don't know how to drive stick, learn.... I won't be going back to an automatic unless I have to, as in wifey threatens to divorce, or someone holds a gun to my head.

Problematic tranny vs 5yr 100k mile warranty even for 2nd owners

Your budget sounds a little tight. I haven't driven a G6 though so I can't opine. I have driven the 7th gen Accord and it does drive nice. However as a 2nd tranny 6th gen Accord owner, I'd be very weary and research the car to death. Resale does suck on the G6 so consider when you will be moving on.

Well. I went and looked at the Accord. It is in pretty good shape. The bolster on the drivers side seat is a little worn, can that be conditioned to stop it from cracking down the road?

On a side note. I also looked at the 02 TL-S. Which I absolutly love. There is not 1 thing I do not like about that car. It has the same amount of miles as the 04. Brand new tires. The leather is flawless. The body is dent/scratch free. Who ever had the car before really took care of it. I don't think it has been in any accidents, unless they used the original badging, which I don't think they do. (I know it is the original because the gold is fading off) But the thing that worries me about that car is the transmission. I know they extended the warranty to 7 year 100k. But the 7th year mark will be next year. I am not hard on my cars (anymore), so I am wondering, If I baby this car, will that transmission last.

My biggest worry is buying a car and then having to worry about its reliability.

Reguardless. I am going to go test drive both of them probably tomorrow night.

Edit- I have to respond to someone up above. I do not want to drive a stick. I have had sticks for the passed 10 years. I am going to be doing a lot of driving. City/Hwy. I would love to have a stick to play around with, but I refuse to drive a stick in this traffic. I'll start walking funny if I get another stick.

As far as the tranny goes on the TL you can find a lot of use tips in the TL section. First of all the tranny is covered if it fails up to 109k/ 7 years 9 months which every comes first. Second of all find out if it has ever been replaced. If the tranny was replaced after 02/05 it has the updated version which is much better. Also your link isnt working for me.

Edit: The link works. The car appears to be in really good shape just make sure to run a background check. Post in TL section for more opinions.

As for carfax. I found out through Progressive, that they do not report to carfax. Soooo, just a word of wisdom to people that still use carfax. Certain insurance companies do not report to them.

I keep hearing AutoCheck is "better".

CarMax uses them so I dunno about that
