License Plate Reflective Spray
This is a pretty general question for cars but seeing as if I have a 09 TL I guess I'll post it here, but feel free to move (Mods).
I heard there was a spray out there that acts like the tinted license plate covers that reflects when getting a picture taken from a speed cam. The tinted covers are obviously noticable by cops but are the spray and what is the legal specifications (if anybody know) for Maryland.
Also where can I get them? Anybody have experience of them?

None of those really work. Best bet is to get a GPS and load up one of the databases like trapster on it. Or move to someplace that doesn't use automated revenue generation.

internet wll reveal test result on real cars--most make the plate shiny so when the light for the camera flashes- it blinds the readout of the plate~

how about NOT running red lights?

Get a paintshop to clear coat the hell outta your plate. All the spray does is make it more reflective. Stupid idea tho. Having that one your plates makes you less worried about running red lights. You dont think about it til youve been hit. Trust me before i got hit from the chick running the red light i thought it was pretty stupid. Now i think all lights should have it.

'09 TL, eh? I wouldn't worry. The camera will explode or something after taking a pic of the car.

usually when I'm approaching an intersection that's got cameras... I put my sunshade down... I don't run red lights intentionally... but one time, I was crossing an intersection at a moderate speed... when all of a sudden, my lane came to a stop... forcing me to stop in the middle of the intersection. I think it was a bus that was at a bus stop that backed up all the cars behind it. So, I saw all these flashes go off... I was pissed because it wasn't my fault... Anyway, so I waited for it to come in the mail... but it never came... I found out later that each picture is actually reviewed by a real person... along with a video camera.... they review the situation and if it wasn't the driver's fault... a ticket will NOT be issued.
I mentioned about the sunshade because if they can't identify the driver... they don't mail the ticket out either... at least that's what I was told by a traffic school instructor.
there IS a spray for the plate that I know of... and it's NOT for camera purposes... but it's to make your license plate less reflective against the laser/lidar... It's NOT speeding-ticket proof... but it DOES caused the laser/lidar to pick up your speed a little later causing a delay... hopefully just enough for you to notice the cop and/or your radar detector pick up the laser... giving you more time to react.
There's also a cheaper way to do this, and it's by using 3M's clear duct tape... you tape it across your front plate... and it makes the plate less reflective as well. There are videos on youtube where they did tests on this.

I just received a red light camera ticket for making a rolling right turn as a yellow light turned red, and I've recently discovered that the duration a light stays yellow before turning red varies from stop light to stop light. The snapshot enclosed with my ticket actualy shows the stoplight as being both simultaneously red and yellow, so I plan to fight it on those grounds but the thought crossed my mind of not responding at all on principle alone. This is an obvious cash grab and I've been trying to figure out for a long time what I can do to fight against this type of municipal fund raising that vilifies innocent and honest people.
80% of red light tickets are for right turn violations http://www.commuteroutrage.com/2008/...rn-violations/ and studies show that right turn related accidents are very rare.
This intersection camera racket is getting out of hand and it's only a matter of time until the public is no longer willing to pay $100 every time they make a minor mistake while driving.

How about knowing all the facts? Many cities have been caught redhanded ILLEGALLY shortening yellow light times to increase revenue generation.
Here's a good website to let you know what is really happening out there.
Government doesn't care if you're safe, they just want your money.

New Orleans has installed a bunch of cameras. It is totally for generating revenue...the city does not even run them, a contracting company in Arizona does. When cities install these cameras they MUST sign a contract with the camera companies stating they will issue a certain number of tickets PER-DAY. Otherwise the camera company loses money. I've found out that the camera company gets 60% of the ticket money and the city gets 40%.
I got a ticket because I came to a "slow roll" (< 5mph) while turning right on a red light. Many of the roads here are 1-way with HUGE medians...it is very easy to get caught in an intersection during a yellow light. Many cities are fighting to get rid of the cameras because studies have shown they often cause MORE accidents because people stop short at intersections and people rear-end them.
I went to court to fight my ticket ($120) and it was worthless. I was put in a room with some guy without a college education who read traffic laws from a book in response to all my questions. Its best to just pay it and move on.
Of course intentionally running red lights is just plain dangerous. I'm talking about people getting stuck in intersections etc.
During Mardi-Gras this year there was actually a float making fun of the city camers.

If I get some jerk that isn't capable of being reasonable I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm pretty adamant about not paying a fine on account of such a minor infraction. I'll make phone calls and everything, I'm just not sure who to call yet. I plan to time the yellow lights at the intersections with cameras to see if they remain yellow for a shorter period than yellow lights at non camera intersections. If I find that they are shorter the local news might be interested. There are similar news stories on YouTube from other regions of the country.

Also I have ordered some reflective spray. I'll give that a try and test it with a regular digital camera and post the results if it works. MythBusters claims it doesn't work, that YouTube video claims it does.
If I recall correctly the MythBusters tests were done during the day, but it's much more reasonable to expect that it would be effective at night since the camera is dependant on its own flash for the exposure. Of the two times I've received these the incident occurred at night.

These camera's do suck, I've gotten flashed more then once because my front wheels were over the white line. But I never received a ticket and other times when you I've been at the light and it just randomly goes off with a flash . I hate those things

Regardless of whether they see who's driving the car or not, they ticket the plate/registered owner of the car. Same thing goes for the red-light or speed cameras. There is no way for them to affectively tell who was driving the car, but the plate is the plate, and whoever it's registered will be the one to get the ticket.

It doesn't work.. most cameras have been changed, at least in bay area. I use fastrak and they get my license plate when my transponder doesn't go off and I sprayed my plates with this...Never had a "red light" ticket. Just fastrak/bridge experience..

the only thing about the spray is... if it makes your plate even more reflective... while it'll help prevent cameras catching you... it'll make it easier for the laser/lidar detectors to pick up your speed...
here's a link to explaining how they work:

personally, I don't run red lights... but like most people, I do go over the speed limit... I'd rather NOT have this spray...

I'm not a constant red light runner but I can see myself doing rolling right turns innocently enough. Bringing my car to a complete 0 mph stop seem rediculous in many circumstances. I'm not sure how sensitive the cameras are but I don't want to chance it. Plus I don't want to pass up the oppurtunity to fuck with them should this happen again.

I don't believe laser speed detection is widely used; I've never seen it anyway. I get the feeling it's like a boogey man meant to sell laser detectors to motorists and cool new technology to police departments.

...with that said, (again) out here in California... too many people were fighting traffic light tickets and winning, because certain circumstances (like mine, mentioned earlier in this thread), would be easily fought in court. this was actually causing more tax money (court cases)... which is why, most traffic camera intersections now, are accompanied with a video camera for reviewing purposes... (literally) each car caught on camera are reviewed by an actual person... if it's questionable? they just don't bother sending out the ticket. to "protect the people" coming upon each traffic camera intersection, there's a sign displaying the fact... I wish there were signs telling you exactly where th cops sit with their laser/lidars... but unfortunately they don't
