So what this video is trying to say is, if you really want to spend $300k on a car, buy a B5 S4, make it stage 3, and then pocket the other $270k? I can't help but think you'd have to be absolutely daft to buy the LFA.

You buy it because it's special and your 1 of the 100 that own that car. Numbers don't mean everything.
I'd buy the LF-A. It looks amazing outside, looks sweet inside, and sounds awesome. It's unique (compared to the 599) and totally worth it.
The people that say part of the reason they'd buy a 599 or anything else because it is cheaper will probably never be wealthy. If you could afford one of these cars you could afford the other. The average 575M owner owned at least six other vehicles. Can't be that different for the 599.

No, it really isn't pointless. Lexus has made a ridiculously expensive "super car" that isn't remotely on the same level as a lot of cars in that price range, hell there are cars that are 1/6 the price yet still offer better performance figures. I'd be interested to know who is really going to waste their money on this, I doubt many will.

Yeah, if I had the money I wouldn't get the LFA but I'm just saying, Lexus wouldn't make it if people didn't buy it.

As far as 9,000 rpm redlines go, I sort of recall that enough headroom was built into the B18C5 for the DC3 ITR to pull that feat as well. (yet another notable but relatively torque deficient product from an Asian make.)
I was in my friend's nearly stock GN and went at it with a GTR. We had to let up and almost hit the brakes to keep from rear ending the GTR in a $10,000 car with $1,500 in mods yet not many people would like to have a GN.
The exhaust note is very nice. However, I have a feeling this car would be very temperamental in an impromptu drag race. While the GTR will have power and torque everywhere on the tach, with a 9,000rpm redline and no torque, it's likely the Lexus will have to be in precisely the right gear at the right speed to do well. Kind of like how the S2000 1/4 mile times ranged from high 15s to high 13s depending on driver skill and the amount of abuse they were willing to inflict on the clutch off the line. They are capable of nice times but will the average driver be capable of getting them.
I think you guys are missing the point on this car. It is not a stoplight-to-stoplight dragster (though 11.8 secs to the 1/4 is pretty damn quick, lets be honest). Look at the handling numbers. 1.05 g and 94 feet from 60. This thing will put up amazing laptimes, mark my word....
Considering it's Lexus' first attempt at a production supercar, I think it's pretty nice. From what I understand, Lexus is actually losing money on each sale. What it is hoping for is to trickle down some of the technology into its lower-priced cars.
You could take that argument to any extreme.

NEW GTR+Swizter Tuning in Ohio=no more then 120k=600+AWHP
^I think I would rather do that then buy an LFA lol, GTR is a great car inside out and I just prefer it over the LFA even if the LFA cost around the same price.
IHC I do admit not a lot of people would take the GN but I love sleepers. Friend has a boosted Dodge Colt it's white, beat up, steelies and a little rusted. Interior is in decent shape, basically you would think it has like 130hp. It was dynoed at 704FWHP and he spent 4k in total on the car lol.

Nope, you have it mixed up. In order to stop people from buying them and reselling at higher prices, you can only lease them.

Great posts and both really sum it up nicely.
Despite all the bad mouthing on this car. I would still get one if I had the money. Just something about it that makes it pretty unique. It's not the power. I mean how often some crazy millionaire buys a fast car and really race it. I would... but still. I think toyota did a great job. Love that digital gauge.

60-0 in 94 ft! 1.05g in the skidpad! The acceleration numbers could be better but 11.8 through the 1/4 mile is still pretty damn fast....
