Lexus GS350/450
Lexus GS350/450
We are currently in market for GS350/450 to replace our old 2003 Lexus RX300, was wondering if they are planning on coming out with 5th gen any time soon?
I know the 4th gen came out like 2-3 years ago, so thought maybe they might do a little face lift or something?
Do you guys think this is the best to buy that car right now, or just wait a little until the end of the year?
I know my dad is pretty much set going with GS, but is there any other car that we should try looking into? I can only think of M35/45, A6, and 528i, not that my dad will ever go with european car.
thanks!!

Jaguar XF is a sick car, but bit aggressive and sporty for my dad. He wants more of family seden then sporty seden. I think he wants to look into Porsche down the road so..
Hell no to Acura RL, ugly as hell.
Cadillac CTS is a very nice car, but we never owned an american car before, so we are not sure if we can trust their liability

Since I'm the resident car-guy at my office, a co-worker recently came to me asking for advice in this segment.
I told him to look at the GS, M45, E500 and BMW 535 and told him I personally would go with the GS.
He test drove all of them and ended up with a 2008 GS460. And unless I'm mistake, they aren't due for any kind of re-model or re-fresh until 2010.
to the GS.

the GS is an amazing car. perhaps my favorite car in lexus' lineup.
i've always preferred the looks and drive of the infiniti M, but looks are subjective and there are many that prefer the luxury and plushness of the lexus over the sportier M.
how about the genesis?

Can't go wrong with the GS. Like someone before said, the GS 350 is just as good as the GS 460. You would be better to wait til the end of the year when Lexus has its 'December to Remember' sales event. We bought a RX330 around that time and they bent over backwards to get rid of it the week after Christmas.
GS350....not slower then the 460, maybe just a little bit, plus better mileage. my dad has an 350awd, very plush, fast, very smooth ride and hauls ass. the navi though is not as good as you would want but he needs the update disc and not being able to play with the navi while in motion is annoying as hell.
GS is solid, thats my vote.

hahaha. How's your F treating you?
My dad is leannind towards 350 more than 460. One of the reason why we are replacing RX300 because of poor gas mileage.

I'm not even going to bother to tell about the RL.

the 350 will probably be alot smoother engine wise then the 460, partly due to the unique port and direct injection. the motor in the GS350 is the same in the IS350. the GS hauls to 140 with out an issue, this i know....
the only difference between the two is motors and then also the transmissions. the 460 is a 8 speed while the 350 is a 6 speed. better buy with the 350 considering it's 7K less then the 460. between that and the better gas mileage and very similar performance my father bought the 350.
i believe they did a minor face lift on the car last year for 08, since my fathers ins an 07 and looks slightly different but nothing major.

I'd get the GS over E500 and 528/535 just because of reliability...but if he's planning on getting rid of it once warranty runs out, the BMW Maintenance plan is a nice thing to have.
The M35/M45 is worth checking out as well; I've read many reviews and ppl like them. Although Infinity's depreciation is slightly higher than Lexus. Let us know what you end up getting!

lets see, the previous GS was out for 6-7 yrs? so there probably wont be an all new GS until 2012. and the 08 model was the facelift believe it or not (from what ive read on CL)
i would go for the 2009 A6. new 3.0T 300hp engine, facelifted front and rear, awd standard, roomier than a GS

I thought there were some quality issues with the GS? I seem to remember hearing about fit & finish issues in the '06, and that Consumer Reports had dropped the "recommended" tag... anybody know anything about this? Was it just minor stuff? Lexus is usually bulletproof, although I know the '07 ES has tranny problems.
One thing that bugged me when I test-drove the GS was the bulge down by my right foot on the AWD model, which is the only one I would get since I'm
of RWD cars on the winter roads here in PA. Other than that I liked it. If your dad is up in Seattle, I would think he would get the AWD model, right? If so, make sure he takes it on an extended test drive to see if he's really comfortable in it.

go hyundai too. my father was in the market for a decent lease in a luxury SUV, as a "just-in case" hauler. he didnt want to muscle the prices of the euros. long story short, i introduced him to hyundai. he picked up a fully loaded Tuscon. it really rides like a dream and has all the comforts you could ask for. (for the price, that is).
swing by hyundai to check out the genesis. only turn off is most salesman are MORONS. and if your father is closed-minded person, dont mean to judge, it may be difficult to hand $$ over to an incompetent salesman.
korean cars are hard to stomach. until you check out the window sticker and take it for a test drive. plus nothing feels better than finding a father a deal that saves him thousands.

Same with my dads dodge pick-up. He has an '01 2500 and he's never really had many problems at all. He's maybe had 2-3 things that he's had "significant" problems with, which were fixed without a hitch. This is all after he was in a fairly bad accident too. It's still running well with 130K miles.
From what I understand, GM has a pretty good track record of reliability. It's not a Honda, but they aren't old school Audi's either.
word. closed minded about european, i would expect that hybrid is not an option.

My mother has an '04 CTS and it has never hiccuped. Runs like a beast. Not a V or anything, but it's definitely nice. The new ones are sex though.
