Let's talk car batteries

While fixing my transmission, I found out my current battery is leaking.

Aside from Optima batteries, what has worked well for you in the past?

Despite EXIDE's super poor reputation on forums, the latest Napa batteries (EXIDE) smoked everyone in the CR tests.

Should I pick-up an EXIDE (Autolite brand) or just get a Duralast GOLD/Walmart EVERSTART MAXX (36 mo free replacement, $80/$70)?

Costco

I have one in my Grand National, which is only started a couple times each year. As such it isn't very battery friendly. Each spring I make the trip to Costco for a yearly replacement. With their liberal return policy and excellent replacement warranty, it's never been a hassle to get a new one.

Go sealed or go home. Optima, or the equivalent.

I also need a new battery for the Z. Storing the car has taken a toll on the battery. Should have trickle charged it or disconnected it. But I think it's a goner since I've had to jump the car at least 2-3 times after not starting the car for more then 2 days. But then again, it's an '03, so maybe it's time has come...

That's where I got my last one... CL doesn't need one yet (knock on wood) but when it does, I'll either get a walmart one or an optima.

I don't know all the players in teh battery market, but Johnson Controls and Exide are the two major players...

Sears and Interstate don't make batteries, they just market them...

Johnson Controls makes Diehard and Interstate batteries, infact Diehard is just a relabeled Interstate with the price jacked up.

I have to agree with that. My moms Altima went through 3 Interstates in 5 years. Had 1 on my old Explorer & that gave out in a year. Had it replaced under warranty, then dumped it.

optimas all the way.. u guys seem to have a lot of time on ur hands to make the trips to "exchange" ur batteries... seriously.. if u have the time to disconnect and keep changing ur batteries for the stupid warranty.. great... but get an optima and relax.... the only time u'll need to replace one of these is if ur car gets into an accident and u need another one.
