Joneill44's BMW 650xi Thread
Back in Sept my beloved Type S went kaboom when a spark plug decide to shoot up from my engine and into the clouds. The damage was enough to need a new engine, which after 10yrs of ownership and 140k miles was not the route I wanted to go down. So began the search for a new daily driver. Requirements were AWD and tune friendly for under $40k. Outside of a couple american muscle and some jdms, the search mostly came down to cars from the German 3.
Initial thoughts were the 440 / S5 / C43, but the more I looked into them, the stronger the itch became to get something a little more special. Not necessarily better but something you don't see as often as 4/5/C-class
My love for the BMW 6series has been strong since the third generation was announced(F12/F13/F06) way back in 2012. It had it all. Looks, luxury, power and now thanks to some beautiful German depreciation I was able to find one right in my wheel house

Nice pick up!! I love my GC and the wheels I chose get lots of compliments (HRE's). Those OEM wheels are kinda fragile if they're 20's, they bend easily, I managed to bend one on a bridge expansion highway joint in Illinois and thankfully had wheel/tire insurance which replaced it free of charge. I ended up using that insurance 3x in 1.5 years before switching to the HRE's.

Sorry to hear about your TL-S! What have you been driving since Sept?
Congrats on the new ride - looks very nice! Reliability and repair would have me a little nervous, but it is a gorgeous looking car. Best of luck with it

P101s are window shop territory for me right now, hopefully I can catch a break in the used marketplace. Also thanks for the help when I reached out to you a couple months back, it was good to hear from someone with personal experience

Currently I have 19s on them. I dont plan on going any bigger than that. The roads in MA are atrocious, especially in the city.

I had the grill ready to swapped out the minute the car arrived but had trouble getting around the night vision housing. Weirdly now the stock grill is starting to really grow on me. I changed the BMW emblem to a black and white one and it really changed how the front end looks. I'll post a picture tomorrow
Xpel PPF and ceramic coating go on Monday so I'm trying not to do too much driving between now and then

4 of my 5 cars have H&R springs on them...
Congrats on the car choice! I thought it was headed toward the 4 rings but truth be told...this thing will be more potent with a little tune and downpipe or whatever it is...
I just happen to love Audi but the 6 series is a gorgeous lady. Enjoy it in good health. A black car means you can pull off any color wheel or look you want...excellent choice.

If I ever grow up, I want to be just like you, Chief.

The B9 RS5 was too new for the depreciation to really kick in so that left me with the S5 and for reasons I stated in my original post I just wanted something different. If the 4.0 from the S6/S7 found its way into a coupe somewhere it wouldve been a different story

You guys are stuck with terrible iphone pics until I buy camera and learn how to use Lightroom
Here is the black BMW emblem I was talking about. I put one on the hood/steering wheel/trunk. Also messed around with some carbon fiber vinyl to see if I like it. Hopefully can find a real set from an M6

I use photoshop and illustrator frequently for very basic graphic design work so I'm not too worried about Lightroom. Nothing a couple YouTube videos cant help with
The camera work will be a lot more trial and error. My brother has one of the basic Cannon T5 kits that come with 18-55mm and a 75-300mm. I have no idea what those lenses are good for or if they are even worth using. Should I buy newer/different lenses for that camera or just start from scratch?
Side note is @guitarplayer16 still around? I havent ventured back into the 3G section since Justn opened the gate. He always had some amazing photos

Just get the nifty 50 and you'll do amazing work. Fast enough for kids and dogs too...
50MM F1.8
Haven't seen Thanh in a LONG time but I'm sure he's still rockin that maple syrup laden TL in the frozen tundra.

Beautiful ride, man. Congrats!
The glory days of my SSM TL has come to an end, hence my absence here and lack of new pictures. Appreciate the kind words! I haven't picked up the camera in a few years, actually.
It's rusting to bits, to the point that I can't even use the right rear jack stand point to jack up the wheel anywhere because all it does is push the area up and not the car.
I recently picked up an 07 WDP TL with 100k miles from a fellow member and friend for a price I couldn't refuse so I'm excited to make a thread for it!

Chief - I think black emblems on a white car are almost a must have. I dont think it would look as good on a black car.
The car is going into the shop tomorrow for PPF/Ceramic Coating so if anything I might have him debadge the 650i & xdrive. If I dont like it I can always put them back on

That's a beautiful car! I love how unique it is too, you will probably be one of the few 650s on the road.
Please tell me you have a Massachusetts Greenie or you plan on skipping the front plate. I would hate to see it have holes drilled in the front bumper.

The TL didnt have a front plate and I have zero plans of putting one on this car. Although I still need to get it inspected so I'll have to figure something out for that day

You must have some MA roots to be talking about Greenies I was never blessed with one. My Dad had one up till 2015ish

You could probably do a tow hook mount for inspection day.
